How to select boot device from BIOS (Boot Menu)

Press F12 or (Fn+F12) rapidly and repeatedly at the Lenovo logo during bootup to open Windows Boot Manager. Select boot device in the list. This is a one-time-option.

Note: If the boot device is disabled in the BIOS, then the boot device cannot be selected using this method.

How to Enable Boot device List F12 Option

The following example shows a system that has an option to enable or disable the Boot device List F12 Option.

Go into the BIOS to enable Boot device List F12 Option (option is usually under the Startup tab).

How to set boot order and access BIOS

1. Restart your computer.

2. Immediately press the BIOS key 5-10 times after the power on button is pressed or restart the system and press the BIOS key when the Lenovo logo is displayed. The BIOS key varies based on your product series.

  • BIOS key for ThinkPad: F1
  • BIOS key for IdeaPad: F2 (or Fn+F2)
  • BIOS key for Desktops & All-in-Ones: F1

3. Navigate to the Boot menu using the arrow keys on your keyboard.

4. Select the hard drive or device you want to set as the first boot priority using the arrow keys.

5. Press the “+” or “-” key to move the selected hard drive or device to the top of the boot priority list.

6. Save the changes and exit the BIOS setup by pressing the appropriate key (for example F10 or ESC).

Your computer will now boot from the selected hard drive or device as the first priority in the boot sequence.
