Solution

Possible solutions include:

Step Windows IoT devices Android devices
1. Review ThinkSmart Management Service (TSMS) device client software version
2. Review network permissions
3. Review other ThinkSmart Manager Requirements
4. Manual device registration

1. Review the ThinkSmart Management Service (TSMS) device client software version

To review the device client version, use the following steps:

  1. Log in as admin on the device itself, or use remote access software.
  2. Open Device Manager.
  3. Expand the System Devices category.
  4. Double-click the Lenovo ThinkSmart Manager Service, then go to the Driver tab.

If the Lenovo ThinkSmart Manager Service is not found, or if a version older than 23.2.0.456 is found, download and install the latest version from: ThinkSmart Management Service.

If claiming error during Add Device occurs again, review the network permissions.

2. Review Network Permissions

The following PowerShell commands can be used to verify you have the correct permissions on your network.

  • test-netconnection -computername api.euwe1.uds.lenovo.com -port 443
  • test-netconnection -computername auth.euwe1.uds.lenovo.com -port 443
  • test-netconnection -computername callhome.uds.lenovo.com -port 443
  • test-netconnection -computername mqtt.euwe1.uds.lenovo.com -port 443
  • test-netconnection -computername ema.euwe1.uds.lenovo.com -port 8080
  • test-netconnection -computername ema-swarm.euwe1.uds.lenovo.com -port 8080
  • test-netconnection -computername api-mtls.euwe1.uds.lenovo.com -port 443
  • test-netconnection -computername mqtt-mtls.euwe1.uds.lenovo.com -port 443
  • test-netconnection -computername geo.uds.lenovo.com -port 443

If there are any problems shown by these commands, contact the network team for assistance.

Note:To future-proof deployments, whitelist *.uds.lenovo.com, as additional endpoints may be added over time for scaling and resiliency.

If claiming error error during Add Device occurs again, review other ThinkSmart Manager requirements.

3. Review other ThinkSmart Manager Requirements

In addition to basic network connectivity, ThinkSmart Manager also has the following requirements:

  • If the corporate network uses a proxy, it must NOT require a user login. ThinkSmart Manager cannot, and will never, support a proxy that requires a user to log in.
  • If the corporate network uses SSL inspection (such as ZScaler), it MUST be disabled or otherwise white-listed for these ThinkSmart devices. ThinkSmart Manager cannot, and will never, support SSL inspection. For example, when you open https://mqtt.euwe1.uds.lenovo.com/ in a browser and inspect the certificate, it must be issued to uds.lenovo.com and issued by DigiCert.  No other “issued to” or “issued by” is acceptable – so if you see anything else, it means your SSL inspection needs to be disabled.

If claiming error during Add Device occurs again, use Manual Device Registration process as shown below:

4. Manual Device Registration

The Manual Device Registration process is described here: Manual Device Registration process during "Add Device" in the ThinkSmart Manager portal
