Steps and instructions to check if the PC seems warm

Symptom

What should you check if the PC seems warm?

Solution

  1. Check air vents
  2. Check the surface
  3. Close CPU intensive applications
  4. Run System updates
  5. Contact support

Check air vents

Remove objects or dust covering the ventilation areas of the machine (ventilation areas are usually located on the left, right, or back of the machine or at the bottom side of the machine). Clear lint, dust, or debris from vents with compressed air when the PC is off.

Check the surface

Try placing the laptop on a flat, hard surface. Uneven or soft surfaces may block the ventilation areas.

Close CPU intensive applications

Close applications that require high CPU usage. Check CPU levels in Task Manager.

  1. Search for and select Task Manager (or use ctr-alt-del to launch Task Manager).
    Search
  2. Use the CPU column under the Processes tab to find applications.
