Windows Bluescreen Errors

Windows can occasionally crash with a blue or black screen when an error is encountered. The details in this section contain information about how to troubleshoot to find a fix.

What is a Bluescreen?
A blue screen error (also called a stop error) can occur if a problem causes the PC to shut down or restart unexpectedly. A blue screen is sometimes referred as "Blue Screen of Death" (BSOD). When you experience this type of error, you won’t be able to see things like the Start menu or the taskbar on the screen when the PC is turned on. Instead you might see a blue screen with a message that the PC ran into a problem and needs to restart.

Bluescreen Troubleshooting

  • If a new application was installed, try uninstalling the application.
  • If a new device was added, try removing the new device.
  • Run software updates.
