How to add a device to ThinkSmart Manager from the ThinkSmart Manager mobile app
Description
Describes how to add a device to ThinkSmart Manager portal using the ThinkSmart Manager mobile app that is available here: iOS | Android.
Adding a device is also known as "claiming a device". Adding a device allows you to:
- Configure the devices advanced settings
- Managed devices claimed by your organization
- Monitor the devices status

How to determine if ThinkSmart Manager Service (TSMS) is installed:
To determine if the ThinkSmart Management Service is installed on a ThinkSmart device, use the following Windows registry commands:
- UDCService:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\UDCService
- ThinkSmartManagementService:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ThinkSmartManagementService

Add ThinkSmart One, Core during Windows OOBE
- Ensure that the device is connected to the internet during the claiming process.
- During Windows OOBE, if the service is not available as shown below, refer to: Manual Device Registration process during "Add Device" - ThinkSmart Manager portal.
- During Windows OOBE, configure the basic Windows settings. After the settings are configured, the QR Code and Activation Code are displayed.
- Do one of the following steps:
- Claim with the QR Code:
- In ThinkSmart mobile app, select Device Manager ➙ Add New Device.
- Select Scan QR barcode.
- Scan the QR code. Once scanned, the app will prompt you to go to the provided deep link in the QR code.
- Notes: This QR code contains all the information required to add a device to ThinkSmart Manager. The mobile device scanning the QR code must have Internet access at the time of scanning.
- Select if you want to apply configurations from cloud.
- Select Do not apply configuration from cloud if you configured the device locally, and do not want the default organization configurations to be applied.
- If you want to apply the default organization configurations to the device, do not select this option.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the claiming process. Once the device is claimed successfully, the device appears as an Unconfigured device in the Device List.
- Claim with the Activation Code:
- In ThinkSmart mobile app, select Device Manager ➙ Add New Device.
- Select Add manually.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to claim the new device.
- Select Core Kit.
- Select Machine Type. Enter Serial Number and the Activation Code.
- Select if you want to apply configurations from cloud.
- Select Do not apply configuration from cloud if you configured the device locally, and do not want the default organization configurations to be applied.
- If you want to apply the default organization configurations to the device, do not select this option.
- Once the device is claimed successfully, the device appears as an Unconfigured device in the Device List.
- Claim with the QR Code:
If unable to complete the process, refer to: Manual Device Registration process during "Add Device" - ThinkSmart Manager portal.
Add ThinkSmart One, Core after Windows OOBE
Before starting the steps listed below, The default Windows Administrator Password sfb must be changed from the device before claiming the device. For more information, click: Using the administrator account on a ThinkSmart device or the ThinkSmart Manager portal.
- Download and install ThinkSmart Management Service by following: How to install the ThinkSmart Manager Service (TSMS) on devices that are not pre-loaded with TSMS.
- In ThinkSmart mobile app, select Device Manager ➙ Add New Device.
- Select ADD manually.
- Follow the on-screen instruction to claim the new device.
- Select Core Kit or ThinkSmart One.
- Select Machine Type. Enter Serial Number and the Windows Administrator Account password. Observe the following password rules:
- The password cannot be blank.
- The password cannot be the default sfb.
- The password length must be between 8 and 60 characters.
- Note: Activation Code is not available for the ThinkSmart Core without a HDMI-In port.
- Select if you want to apply configurations from the cloud.
- Select Do not apply configuration from cloud if you configured the device locally and do not want the default organization configurations to be applied.
- If you want to apply the default organization configurations to the device, do not select this option.
- Select Configure Device to configure the hub settings. For more information, visit: How to manage devices using the ThinkSmart Manager mobile app.

Add ThinkSmart Edition Tiny M920q after Windows OOBE
Before starting the steps listed below, The default Windows Administrator Password sfb must be changed from the device before claiming the device. For more information, click: Using the administrator account on a ThinkSmart device or the ThinkSmart Manager portal.
- Download and install ThinkSmart Management Service by following: How to install the ThinkSmart Manager Service (TSMS) on devices that are not pre-loaded with TSMS.
- In ThinkSmart mobile app, select Device Manager ➙ Add New Device.
- Select ADD manually.
- Follow the on-screen instruction to claim the new device.
- Select ThinkSmart Edition Tiny.
- Select Machine Type. Enter Serial Number and the Windows Administrator Account password. Observe the following password rules:
- The password cannot be blank.
- The password cannot be the default sfb.
- The password length must be between 8 and 60 characters.
- Select if you want to apply configurations from the cloud.
- Select Do not apply configuration from cloud if you configured the device locally and do not want the default organization configurations to be applied.
- If you want to apply the default organization configurations to the device, do not select this option.
- Select Configure Device to configure the hub settings. For more information, visit: How to manage devices using the ThinkSmart Manager mobile app.
If unable to complete the process, refer to: Manual Device Registration process during "Add Device" - ThinkSmart Manager portal.
Add ThinkSmart Hub during Windows OOBE
- Make sure the device is connected to the internet during the claiming process.
- During Windows OOBE, if the service is not available as shown below, refer to Manual Device Registration process during "Add Device" - ThinkSmart Manager portal.
- During Windows OOBE, configure the basis Windows settings. After the settings are configured, the QR Code and Activation Code are displayed.

- Select Hub 500 or Hub.
- Select Machine Type. Enter Serial Number and the Activation Code.
- Select if you want to apply configurations from the cloud.
- Select Do not apply configuration from cloud if you configured the device locally and do not want the default organization configurations to be applied.
- If you want to apply the default organization configurations to the device, do not select this option.
- One the device is claimed sucessfully, the device appears as an Unconfigured device in the Device List.
- Claim with the QR Code:
Add ThinkSmart Hub after Windows OOBE

Add ThinkSmart View Plus during Android OOBE
- Ensure that the device is connected to the internet during the claiming process.
- During the Android OOBE, if the service is not available or claiming issue as shown below, refer to: Manual Device Registration process during "Add Device" - ThinkSmart Manager portal..
- Log in to ThinkSmart Manager portal (https://portal.thinksmart.lenovo.com) with your Lenovo ID.
- Do one of the following steps:
- Claim with the QR Code:
- In ThinkSmart mobile app, select Device Manager ➙ Add New Device.
- Select Scan QR barcode.
- Scan the QR code. Once scanned, the app will prompt you to go to the provided deep link in the QR code.
- Notes: This QR code contains all the information required to add a device to ThinkSmart Manager. The mobile device scanning the QR code must have Internet access at the time of scanning.

- Claim with the Activation Code:
- Log in to ThinkSmart Manager portal (https://portal.thinksmart.lenovo.com) with your Lenovo ID.
- Click Device Manager then Devices on the left navigation panel, and then click Add Device button.
- Select ADD INDIVIDUALLY, and device type View Plus. Then, click Continue.
- Select Machine Type and enter Serial Number. Then, click Next.
- Enter Activation Code.
- Click Submit.
- Claim with the QR Code:

Add ThinkSmart View Plus after Android OOBE
- Log in to ThinkSmart Manager portal (https://portal.thinksmart.lenovo.com) with your Lenovo ID.
- Click Device Manager then Devices on the left navigation panel, and then click Add Device button.
- Select ADD INDIVIDUALLY, and device type View Plus. Then, click Continue.
- Select Machine Type and enter Serial Number. Then, click Next.
- Enter Android Administrator Password. Observe the following rules:
- The password cannot be blank.
- The password length must be between 8 to 60 characters.
