Steps and instructions to fix SIM Card Detection issue with Nano-to-Micro Adapter or a Multi-Fit SIM Card - ThinkPad

Symptom

SIM card detection issues have been reported when users use a pre-cut Nano SIM with a Nano-to-Micro Adapter or a Multi-Fit SIM Card similar to the image below.

The industry standard Nano and Micro SIMs conform to two different specifications for card size and thickness. This difference may lead to connectivity issues when used with adapters in the listed Lenovo products.

Additionally, the use of a Nano-to-Micro SIM adapter or Multi-Fit SIM card with a SIM tray may be difficult to insert correctly, leading to internal pin damage and tray ejection issues.

The use of a Nano-to-Micro SIM adapter or a Multi-Fit SIM Card with a push-pull style SIM socket may result in alignment issues which can deform the socket or damage the internal pins, as shown below.

Solution

Lenovo recommends users only use a true Micro SIM which conforms to industry standard specifications in their system. If a Multi-Fit SIM card is the only option with your carrier, we recommend not breaking the Nano SIM portion of the chip.
