How to get the ThinkSystem ThinkEdge Security Pack Enabled devices local key and Activation Code using the IPMI tool
Description
The ThinkEdge Security Pack Enabled devices system board replacement procedure is unique due to the need for the servicer to upload the new Activation Code to the replacement system board. The update key process is usually carried out with the ThinkShield mobile app, but some situations are not suited to mobile app use. In these situations, the servicer would need to use the IPMI tool to get the public key. This article introduces the procedure used to get the ThinkSystem ThinkEdge Security Pack Enabled devices local key and Activation Code using the IPMI tool.

Procedure
Enable IPMI in XClarity Controller (XCC)
- Log in to XCC.
- Select BMC Configuration, and then Network.
- Scroll down to the Service Enablement and Port Assignment section, and then enable IPMI over LAN.
Use IPMI to get a public key
- Connect the laptop to the XCC port that has the IPMI tool installed.
- In the example commands shown below, the IP address is 10.10.0.6, the user name is USERID, and password is PASSW0RD.
- Use the following command to get the public key:
ipmitool -I lanplus -U "USERID" -P "PASSWORD" -H "HOST IP" raw 0x3a 0xf2 0x6

Get an Activation Code
- Connect the laptop to the XCC port that has the IPMI tool installed.
- In the example commands shown below, the IP address is 10.10.0.6, the user name is USERID, and password is PASSW0RD.
- Use the following command to get the public key:
ipmitool -I lanplus -U "USERID" -P "PASSWORD" -H "HOST IP" raw 0x3a 0xf2 0x10 0x03
Sample output:

1DBCF2E3C6A2E51C
- The Activation Code on the label will be 1DBC-F2E3-C6A2-E51C.
