Symptom
There will be no HDD boot option in the boot management list of a ThinkSystem SR635/SR655 if there is not an OS installed in UEFI boot mode on the HDD.
(where HDD = Hard Disk Drive, UEFI = Unified Extensible Firmware Interface)
Affected Configurations
The system may be any of the following Lenovo servers:
- ThinkSystem SR635, Type 7Y98, any model
- ThinkSystem SR635, Type 7Y99, any model
- ThinkSystem SR655, Type 7Y00, any model
- ThinkSystem SR655, Type 7Z01, any model
This tip is not software specific.
This tip is not option specific.
The system has the symptom described above.
Workaround
No workaround.
Additional Information
This is in accordance with the AMI standard UEFI design. If the boot mode is set to UEFI in the boot page, HDD should be installed with OS, and then the boot option will be shown in the boot management list. If no OS is installed in the HDD, there will be no boot option in the boot management list.
If the boot mode is set to Legacy mode in the boot page, HDD boot option will be shown in the boot management list regardless of whether there is OS installed in the HDD.
The above design is different from the design of Lenovo property UEFI (ThinkSystem Purley).
