Description

Describes the recommended steps for deployment for selected Windows-based ThinkSmart devices.

Solution

Step 1: Initial set up of Microsoft Team Rooms (MTR) and Zoom Rooms accounts

  • Microsoft Teams Rooms (MTR):
    • With assistance from an IT Manager or a Teams Admin, set up room resource accounts.
      • MTR systems requires Room Resource Accounts starting July 2023. Ensure that a Room Resource Account is created for each MTR.
      • License the Room Resource account for Teams (Pro licensing required for dual display systems and teams environments with more than 25 systems).

  • Zoom Rooms:

Step 2: Unbox system, attach cables, and power-on

  • Unbox the system and connect all peripherals in a deployment setting prior to a conference room installation.
  • Attach a keyboard and mouse.
  • Connect to the internet.
  • With all cables and power cord attached, power on device.
Note: For Microsoft Team Rooms deployments, the deployment may require an EDID Emulator for the HDMI monitor. For more information, click: Microsoft Teams Rooms (MTR) has blank screen, may freeze, become unresponsive, or no response on the ThinkSmart device.

Step 3: Complete Windows Out-Of-Box (OOBE)

Windows OOBE occurs when the system is powered on first time. OOBE is a series of steps that requires the person to: accept license agreements, connect to the internet, log in with, or sign up for a Microsoft Account (MSA). Step 4: Sign-in to the conference room app: Microsoft Teams Rooms (MTR) or Zoom Rooms

Step 5: Update Lenovo ThinkSmart system BIOS and Drivers to ensure the device has the most recent updates

Update the system BIOS and drivers from Lenovo Technical Support (support.lenovo.com). The following has information regarding BIOS and driver updates:

Note: Lenovo Vantage, for BIOS and driver updates, is not supported on Windows-based ThinkSmart devices.

To update BIOS and drivers, follow these steps:

  1. Press the Windows Key on the keyboard five times to access the Admin account.
  2. Switch to the local Admin.
    • Select More > Settings
    • Enter the Admin password
    • Click on Windows Settings
    • Change to Admin account
    • Enter the Admin password
  3. Click support.lenovo.com
  4. Enter the device Serial Number (SN), and press enter.
  5. Select Drivers and Software
  6. Download and install all available drivers.
    Note: Attempting to install a driver that does not need to be updated, does not cause harm.
  7. Restart the device.
  8. Using the same process, download and install the latest BIOS version.
    Note: Download the BIOS package for Windows for easier installation. The current BIOS version can be verified using the the ThinkSmart Manager portal.
  9. Restart the device.

Step 6. Update the Microsoft Teams Room (MTR) or Zoom Rooms conference room app

Microsoft Teams Room (MTR)

  1. Switch to the local Admin.
    • Select More > Settings
    • Enter the Admin password
    • Click on Windows Settings.
    • Change to Admin account.
    • Enter the Admin password.
  2. Go to Manually update a Microsoft Teams Rooms device and download the PowerShell script.
  3. Log back into the Skype account.
  4. Press the Windows Key five times to access the Admin account.
  5. Log into the Admin account.
  6. Open an elevated command prompt.
  7. Type the following comment: PowerShell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted "C:\Users\Admin\Downloads\MTR-Update-4.15.58.0.ps1" and press Enter.
    Notes:
    • MTR version is subject to change. For more information, click: Release Notes for Microsoft Teams Rooms.
    • Ensure to enter the version listed in the name of the file that was downloaded. For instance, if 4.15.58.0 was downloaded, include 4.15.58.0 into the command line that is listed above.
  8. Press R to run the PowerShell script.
  9. Once finished, restart the device.

Step 7. Update Microsoft Windows

To update, follow these steps:

  1. Log into the admin account.
  2. Click Start.
  3. Click Settings.
  4. Click Windows Update.
  5. Install all available Windows Updates.
  6. If necessary, restart the device.
  7. Repeat until all Windows updates have completed.

Step 8. Sign-in to the ThinkSmart Manager portal (https://portal.thinksmart.lenovo.com)
