Use the menu or Windows shortcut keys to cut, copy, paste, or undo text in Windows.
Menu options
Select the text in an application such as Notepad (choose an application that allows editing).
Right-click the text and select a menu option.
- Cut removes the text.
- Copy makes a copy of the text.
- Paste replaces the selected text.
- Undo restores a previous change.
- Redo undoes a previous change.
Microsoft Word and Excel have similar menu options. The Undo menu option can be found in the top menu bar. For example:
Shortcut keys
Select the text and then use a shortcut key.
- Control + C copies the text.
- Control + V pastes the previously copied text.
- Control + X removes and copies the text.
- Control + Z undoes the previous change.
- Control + Y redoes the previous change.
