Did you know you can update your system BIOS with an executable or through Lenovo Vantage? Here are the steps to update your BIOS and keep your computer working properly.

Update BIOS through Windows with an executable file downloaded from Lenovo Support (support.lenovo.com) website

1. To update your BIOS in Windows with an executable, open your internet browser and go to support.lenovo.com.
2. Type your product name, serial number, or machine type into the search box in the middle of the page and then select your machine from the dropdown list.
3. Make certain that you have selected the correct system, as installing the wrong BIOS could cause your computer to stop functioning.
4. The “Drivers & Software” tab to bring up a list of drivers available for your system.
5. Click the drop down menu labeled “Operating System” and select your computer’s OS.
6. Click the drop down menu labeled “Component” and select BIOS/UEFI from the list.
7. Now click the download icon on the right side of the most recently listed BIOS update and save the file to your system.
8. Update your BIOS while using a reliable power source.
9. Even a small power fluctuation can corrupt the BIOS while it is updating, which can lead to an unusable computer.
10. Once the installation file has been saved on your system, double-click the file to run it and follow the instructions during installation until the BIOS update has been fully installed.
11. After the install process has been completed for the BIOS, the downloaded installation file can safely be deleted.

Update BIOS and drivers using Lenovo System Update

1. To get Lenovo System update, go to support.lenovo.com.
2. Type your product name, serial number, or machine type into the Search box, and then select your machine from the dropdown list.
3. Click the dropdown menu labeled “Operating System” and select your computer’s OS, then click the “Drivers & Software” tab to bring up a list of drivers and software.
4. Scroll through the list until you find System Update.
5. Click the down arrow icon on the right to download System Update.
6. Once the installation file has been saved on your system, double-click the file to run it and follow the instructions during installation until System Update is fully installed.
7. After the install process has been completed, the downloaded installation file can safely be deleted.
8. It is recommended to run Windows Update before running System Update.

Update BIOS and drivers from Lenovo Vantage:

1. If you’re running the app full screen, you will see SYSTEM UPDATE under the device option at the top. If not, you will need to toggle the menu button to select SYSTEM UPDATE. You can also use the UPDATE button in your QUICK SETTINGS.
2. Click the CHECK FOR UPDATES button to begin the scan.
3. After the scan is complete you will see the updates for your device.
4. Scroll down until you see your BIOS Update and click the checkbox.
5. Press the INSTALL SELECTED UPDATES button.
6. A reboot is required to run the BIOS update.
7. Press OK on the reboot prompt. The download update will begin.
8. Select the update BIOS option on the Flash Update Utility.
9. When it finishes, you will be prompted to reboot your computer.
