Describes Frequently Asked Question's (FAQ's) and Troubleshooting for the ThinkSmart Cam (4Y71).

When paired with a compute, such as ThinkSmart Hub, ThinkSmart Edition Tiny M920q (10T1), ThinkSmart Core or when used alone as a standard plug-and-play device, the new ThinkSmart Cam creates immersive, productive spaces where everyone can be fully engaged and collaborative regardless of where they are located. As an enterprise-grade AI smart camera designed with video collaboration in mind, ThinkSmart Cam is certified for compatibility with both Microsoft Teams Rooms and Zoom Rooms platforms.

Frequenty Asked Question's (FAQ's)

  • Do device drivers need to be installed?
    • No. It does not need any driver, the camera is based on the Windows USB Video Class (UVC) driver.
  • Does the camera need any updated software?
    • The camera automatically updates by Windows when the system has internet access.
  • Can the camera be used with Microsoft Teams Rooms and Zoom Rooms?
    • Yes. The camera supports Teams, Zoom and WebEx.
  • Does the camera support 1080p and other resolutions?
    • Yes. The supported resolutions are listed at: ThinkSmart Cam (4Y71C41660). The ThinkSmart Manager is used to change the resolution settings.
  • How to change the Artificial Intellence (AI) functions?
    • Conference Room environment for ThinkSmart devices:
      • The ThinkSmart Manager software is used to change the Artificial Intelligence (AI) functions.
    • Open Plan or Work from Home environment with any Window 10 system:
  • Can a USB 3.0 cable be used with the ThinkSmart Cam?
    • The camera supports the cable that is included with the camera, and the optional cable from Lenovo. Both cables are USB 2.0.
  • While the camera is in use, can the ThinkSmart cam configuration be changed using the ThinkSmart Cam app or ThinkSmart Manager?
    • Yes. ThinkSmart Cam configurations can be changed while the camera is in use. This will not stop the video, however it may change the experience for viewers of the video stream.
  • The "people counting" configuration is turned on, what does it do?
    • The ThinkSmart Cam will count the people in the room. In future releases of the ThinkSmart Manager and ThinkSmart Cam app, there will be extended features to leverage the data generated from the people counting functionality.
  • What Operating Systems support the ThinkSmart Cam Control app?
    • Windows 10 systems
  • Can ThinkSmart Manager be used on systems other than ThinkSmart Core, ThinkSmart Hub, ThinkSmart Hub 500 and ThinkSmart Edition Tiny M920q?
  • The ThinkSmart Cam is not detected by the device, what can I do?
    • Review the USB connection between the device and ThinkSmart Cam. ​Disconnect and re-connect the USB cable.
  • The ThinkSmart cam is detected by the device, however it is not working.
    • Review the USB connection between the device and ThinkSmart Cam. Disconnect and re-connect the USB cable.
  • Can the ThinkSmart Manager, or ThinkSmart Cam Control App be used at the same time, on the same device, on a single ThinkSmart Cam device to configure settings?
    • No, the ThinkSmart Manager will be the primary control point for the ThinkSmart Cam. The ThinkSmart Cam app is not permitted to function in this scenario.
  • What to do when the ThinkSmart Cam displays an error in either ThinkSmart Manager or ThinkSmart Cam Control App Open Issues areas?
    • ​Review the USB connection between the device and ThinkSmart Cam. ​Disconnect and re-connect the USB cable.
    • Within Windows, follow these steps
      1. With the ThinkSmart Cam connected to target device, navigate to the Device Manager (right-click windows start key -> Device Manager).
      2. Navigate to Cameras, find ThinkSmart Cam, as shown below:

      3. Right-click ThinkSmart Cam and Uninstall Device.
      4. Disconnect and re-connect the USB cable.
      5. Confirm is error is resolved.

Troubleshooting

  • The ThinkSmart Cam does not recognize the device?
    • Perform the following:
    1. Disconnect and re-connect the USB cable.
    2. Review and confirm the device name (ThinkSmart Cam).
  • The ThinkSmart cam has a black image?
    • Perform the following:
    1. Disconnect and re-connect the USB cable.
    2. Review and confirm the device name (ThinkSmart Cam).
    3. Open the Camera App.
  • The ThinkSmart Cam is unable to get a new firmware version or update?
    • Perform the following:
    1. Disconnect and re-connect the USB cable.
    2. Review and confirm the device name (ThinkSmart Cam).
    3. Open ThinkSmart Manager and review the firmware version.
    4. Apply a Windows Update.
  • The ThinkSmart Cam is displaying a image error.
    • Perform the following:
    1. Disconnect and re-connect the USB cable.
    2. Review and confirm the device name (ThinkSmart Cam).
    3. Open the Camera App.
  • The ThinkSmart Cam AI function does not close?
    • Perform the following:
      1. Open the Lenovo ThinkSmart Camera Controller or ThinkSmart Manager again.
      2. Close the AI function.
      3. Open the Camera app, and check the image.
      4. Restart the device.
  • The ThinkSmart Cam is not supported Teams or Zoom?
    • Perform the following:
      1. Check the camera device.
      2. Open Windows Camera app to review the status of the camera.
      3. Open Teams or Zoom again.

Note: It is recommended to disable AI features like Automated Zoom, Speaker Tracking, and Whiteboard Detection when using Microsoft Teams Room's Cloud IntelliFrame.
