Applying fourth quarter 2019 firmware update (UEFI 2.41 and XCC 3.00 at the same time) may result in error at next boot - Lenovo ThinkAgile, ThinkSystem
Symptom
After applying Fourth Quarter 2019 system firmware (UEFI 2.41 and XCC 3.00 at the same time) using BoMC, the following error occurs at the next system boot.
FQXSPUN0019M Sensor ME Status has transitioned to critical from a less severe state.
FQXSPPW0008I Host Power has been turned off.
This failure only occurs when manually applying UEFI 2.41, which is unchecked by default in BoMC.
(where UEFI = Unified Extensible Firmware Interface, XCC = Lenovo XClarity Controller, BoMC = Bootable Media Creator)

This tip is not option specific.
The following system BIOS/uEFI level(s) are affected: UEFI earlier than 1.41
The system has the symptom described above.
Solution
The XML file of UEFI firmware lnvgy_fw_uefi_ive126o-1.41_anyos_32-64 does not have the flag "checkPrereqForApplicableSystem" with value "1" (which is a new feature introduced in 2019) so OneCLI/UpdateXpress/BoMC did not select UEFI ive126o-1.41, resulting in this issue. On SR630, UEFI 1.41 must be applied prior to applying UEFI 2.41.
To address this issue, re-download the XML file "lnvgy_fw_uefi_ive126o-1.41_anyos_32-64.xml" (Checksum SHA1: F5E76DD31727EB29AE5945F849CFE44D7E2453C9) from Lenovo support web site and replace the original one in the repository.
Workaround
To prevent the issue, update XCC firmware to version 3.00 first, reboot the system and then apply UEFI firmware to version 1.41 and 2.41 via XCC Web console. System reboot is required for each UEFI update to take effect.
If the Error LED is asserted, please AC cycle the system and then reapply UEFI 1.41 and 2.41 via XCC Web console as mentioned above.
Additional Information
Some UEFI versions have update prerequisites, which is stated in the change history. Bypassing prerequisite versions may cause unexpected behavior.
This issue may also occur on any other ThinkSystem or ThinkAgile systems that are not listed in the affected items when updating UEFI and bypassing prerequisite versions.
