Summary of Lenovo Agreement for Machine Code

Lenovo has a customer-centric policy around the availability and usage of Machine Code and Firmware

1. As long as a customer owns a Lenovo server or storage unit, they are licensed to execute Machine Code and Firmware on that system or storage unit, and make copies for backup.
2. Upgrades are available if the Lenovo server and storage products are under warranty or covered by a Lenovo maintenance agreement. Notwithstanding the forgoing, Lenovo may make the latest available security update to the firmware to Lenovo products (not including third party products) free of charge, to the extent required by applicable law.  Third party suppliers may provide their own updates to customers.  Lenovo maintains ownership of the Machine Code and Firmware, and no other rights are given. The Customer cannot alter or run the code anywhere except on the Machine for which the code is licensed.  Except as provided herein, third party maintenance providers shall be required to have an active maintenance contract with Lenovo for the related product, in order to download or use Lenovo firmware in support of such product(s). 

We recommend that our customers keep their systems under Lenovo warranty or maintenance agreements to ensure the highest availability and reliability at any given time. Code updates are one part of the entire data center support environment, and keeping each system’s support coverage current is the best policy to ensure support when unforeseen situations arise. Lenovo's goal is to have highly satisfied Customers and we believe the best way to accomplish this is by providing extraordinary service where support is consistent, service delivery coverage is robust, parts are manufacturer tested and approved, and technicians are not only certified but also have deep product expertise and access to technical support at any given time.
