Hard Disk Drive or Solid State Drive replacement - ThinkPad X230s, X240s

  1. Disconnect the AC adapter from the computer.
  2. Power on the system and continuously tap F1 to enter the BIOS.
  3. If you receive a general help window press enter to continue.
  4. Use the right arrow key to select the configuration menu.
  5. Use the down arrow key to highlight the power menu, and press enter.
  6. The power sub menu will be displayed.
  7. Use the down arrow key to highlight the disable built in battery option, and press enter.
  8. Assure that yes is highlighted and hit enter again to power off the system.
  9. Allow your system three to five minutes to cool before you open up the cover.
  10. Insert a straightened paper clip into the release hole of the SIM Card tray.
  11. Pull the tray from the slot and leave it out until servicing is complete.
  12. Loosen the seven captive screws that secure the Base Cover.
  13. Lift the Base Cover to remove it.
  14. Disconnect the front battery cable from the system board.
  15. Remove the single retaining screw.
  16. Lift the Hard Disk Drive and disconnect the cable.
  17. Remove the single screw from the connector bracket.
  18. Remove the connector bracket.
  19. Disconnect the Hard Disk Drive cable and remove it.
  20. Detach the hard drive bracket by carefully pulling the mounting posts from each of the four hard drive screw holes.
  21. Connect the Hard Disk Drive cable to the system board.
  22. Install the connector bracket and one retaining screw.
  23. Starting at one end, insert each of the bracket posts into the screw mount holes of the hard disk drive.
  24. Connect the cable to the drive.
  25. Place the drive onto the chassis.
  26. Install the single retaining screw.
  27. Connect the front battery cable to the system board.
  28. Align the Base Cover with the ports of the system.
  29. Tighten seven captive screws to secure the Base Cover to the chassis.
  30. Insert the tray into the slot until it clicks into place.
  31. Connect the AC adapter to the system.
  32. Turn on the computer to automatically enable the internal battery.
