Description

This document contains the TPM driver for Windows 2000, XP, and Vista.

What's More

This package provides the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) driver for Microsoft Windows Vista 32-bit, WIndows XP and XP Tablet Edition 2005, and Windows 2000.

This release supports the following systems:
- ThinkPad R60(*2), R60e(*2), R61(*2)
- ThinkPad R61i (Machine types: 7732, 7742, 8918, 8932, 8943)(*2)
- ThinkPad T42, T42p
- ThinkPad T60(*2), T60p(*2), T61(*2), T61p(*2)
- ThinkPad X41, X41 Tablet(*1)
- ThinkPad X60(*2), X60s(*2), X60 Tablet(*1)(*2)
- ThinkPad X61, X61s, X61 tablet, X300
- ThinkPad Z60m, Z60t, Z61e(*2), Z61m(*2), Z61p(*2), Z61t(*2)
- ThinkPad Reserve Edition(*3)

Notes:
*1: Supports Windows XP Tablet Edition 2005 only.
*2: For Windows Vista, the TPM device driver is included in Windows Vista. No update is needed from this driver package.
*3: Supports Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit only.

Installation instructions
Windows 2000
Update Install
  1. Start Windows 2000.
  2. Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel.
  3. Double-click System.
  4. Click the Hardware tab, then click Device Manager.
  5. Expand the System devices category and right click Atmel Tpm Pnp Device or Atmel TPM in System devices and click Properties.
  6. Click the Driver tab, click Update Driver, then click Next.
  7. Select Search for a suitable driver for my device then click Next.
  8. Select Specify a location only, then click Next.
  9. Click Browse, locate the driver, then click Open. The default location for this driver is: C:\Drivers\Win\TPM.
  10. Click OK, click Next, then click Finish.

Clean Install (Found New Hardware Wizard)
If it is the first time booting to Windows 2000, the OS detects the "TPM Device" automatically.

  1. Start Windows 2000. The Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box will appear.
  2. Click Next.
  3. Select Search for a suitable driver for my device, then click Next.
  4. Select Specify a location only, then click Next.
  5. Click Browse, locate the driver, then click Open. The default location for this driver is: C:\Drivers\Win\TPM.
  6. Click OK, click Next, then click Finish.

Clean Install (Unknown device in other or System devices)
Windows 2000 detected the "TPM Device", but was not able to locate the suitable device driver. In this case, you will see "Unknown device" in "Other devices" or "System devices" category in the Device Manager.

  1. Start Windows 2000.
  2. Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel.
  3. Double-click System.
  4. Click the Hardware tab then click Device Manager.
  5. Right-click Unknown device in Other devices or System devices and click Properties.
  6. Click the Driver tab, click Update Driver, then click Next.
  7. Select Search for a suitable driver for my device then click Next.
  8. Select Specify a location only then click Next.
  9. Click Browse, locate the driver, and click Open. The default location for this driver is: C:\Drivers\Win\TPM.
  10. Click OK, click Next, then click Finish.
Windows XP and XP Tablet edition 2005
Update Install
  1. Start Windows XP.
  2. Click Start then click Control Panel.
  3. Click Performance and Maintenance and then click the System icon.
  4. Click the Hardware tab then click Device Manager.
  5. Expand the System devices category.
  6. Right-click Atmel Tpm Pnp Device or Atmel TPM in System devices and click Properties.
  7. Click the Driver tab then click Update Driver.
  8. Select No, not this time and click Next.
  9. Select Install from a list or specific location and click Next.
  10. Select Search for the best driver in these locations and Include this location in the search only.
  11. Click Browse, locate the driver, and OK. The default location for this driver is: C:\Drivers\Win\TPM.
  12. Click Next then click Finish.

Note: This driver should only be installed on the following systems:
  • ThinkPad T42, T42p
  • ThinkPad X41
  • ThinkPad X41 Tablet
  • ThinkPad Z60m, Z60t

Update Install

  1. Start Windows Vista.
  2. Click Start then click Control Panel.
  3. Click System and Maintenance then click System.
  4. Click Device Manager.
  5. Click + to expand the System devices category.
  6. Right-click Atmel Tpm Pnp Device or Atmel TPM and then select Update Driver Software...
  7. Click Browse my computer for driver software.
  8. Click Browse... and specify the driver location. The default location for this driver is: C:\Drivers\Win\TPM.
  9. Confirm Include subfolders is selected and click Next.
  10. Click Close when the installation is completed.

Determining which version is installed
To check the version of the device driver that is installed on your system, follow the instructions below:

For Windows 2000:

  1. Open the Device Manager, expand the System devices category, and open Atmel Tpm Pnp Device or Atmel TPM.
  2. Click the Driver tab and check the Driver Version.

For Windows Vista 32-bit:

  1. Right-click Computer, then click Properties.
  2. Click Device Manager.
  3. Expan the system devices category.
  4. Double-click Atmel Tpm Pnp Device or Atmel TPM.
  5. Click the Driver tab and the driver version will be displayed.
