What is Lenovo Service Bridge?

Lenovo Service Bridge (LSB) is an application that resides on your machine where it stores your machine’s Serial Number (S/N) and Machine Type Model (MTM) number. This data remains on your device within the LSB app until you choose to allow Lenovo’s support site to interact with LSB to auto-detect your device. If you choose the option to “Detect my Product” on the Lenovo support website LSB will send your S/N and MTM to the Lenovo service site – this saves you from having to find the Serial Number and MTM. Lenovo will then place the Serial Number and MTM into a cookie on your browser so that the website can remember what device you are running when you come back to the support site. This allows Lenovo to customize the updates related to drivers, downloads, and recommended software solutions for your specific device.

What data is collected?

LSB collects only the S/N and MTM from your devices and stores it locally until you decide to have Lenovo’s online support site to “Detect your Product”. Then, the information will also reside in a cookie that Lenovo places on your browser. Lenovo will collect usage information about how you use our online support websites and this usage information will be linked to your cookie. As part of this data collection, Lenovo does not collect personal information about you – your usage data will only be linked to the S/N and MTM.

How does Lenovo use the information?

If you choose to upload your Serial Number and MTM through the “Detect my Product” functionality, Lenovo will store your S/N and MTM in a cookie, and will also store the data in Adobe SiteCatalyst. Lenovo will use this information to customize its support site to your device – i.e., providing updates and downloads as well as recommended software. Lenovo will also link the cookie data (including your web usage data) with other support-related information we collect about you such as support call center data. This will enable Lenovo to better assess the effectiveness of our online support websites.
Depending on other data that Lenovo may have about you – e.g., through the registration process – Lenovo may be able to link the S/N to information you have provided, including your name, email address, address. However, Lenovo does not intend to link your LSB data to any personally identifiable information. Our intent is simply to collect information about how effective our online support pages are so that we may improve our service for you.

Cookies:

Cookies are text files containing small amounts of information which are downloaded to your device when you visit a website. Cookies are then sent back to originating website on each subsequent visit, or to another website that recognizes the cookie. Cookies are useful because they allow a website to recognize a user’s device.
Cookies do a variety of jobs, from allowing users to "log in" to web sites, letting you navigate the pages efficiently, remembering your preferences, use shopping carts and generally improve the user experience. They can also help to ensure that adverts you see online are more relevant to you and your interests.
You can view and remove the cookies on your computer, to do so: go to your web browser settings to adjust and disable cookies.

Where will my data be stored?

Initially, LSB will store your S/N and MTM only on your device within the app. If you choose to upload the data to Lenovo’s support site through the “Detect My Product” functionality, the data will be hosted within Lenovo servers within the United States and on Adobe’s cloud services. Within Lenovo, Lenovo IT and eServices team will have access to the cookie in order to collect information about how effective our online support pages are so that we may improve our service for you.

Cross-border Transfers of Data:

Lenovo is a global company with legal entities, business operations, and technical systems around the world. By downloading LSB and using the “Detect your Product” functionality on Lenovo’s online support site, you agree that Lenovo may transfer data about your device – i.e., your S/N and MTM – and store that data wherever Lenovo does business.

How do I remove Lenovo Service Bridge and the Data?

You may remove LSB through the Uninstall functionality on your Lenovo device. This will remove the application from your device. You may also remove the cookie by deleting the cookie from within your browser. If you wish to use LSB, but not accept its cookie, you must disable cookies within your browser.
