Dolby Home Theater does not work after Windows 10 upgrade - ThinkPad, ideapad

Symptom

After upgrading to Windows 10, the following symptoms regarding Dolby Home Theater may occur:

  • cannot be launched
  • certain features became unworkable
  • the equalizer does not move
  • Dolby Digital Plus feature does not work
  • missing driver message

Solution

Note:
Check Windows Support Center - Windows 10 to ensure the machine is supported by Windows 10. For machines not listed, drivers have not been updated for that machine, and Lenovo does not recommend an upgrade to Windows 10.

Method One

Update to latest BIOS

Update the machine with the latest BIOS from Support Site.

Uninstall audio driver and Dolby related programs

  1. Open Device Manager (methods to open Device Manager).

  2. Navigate to Sound, video and game controllers --> right-click Realtek High Definition Audio, Conexant SmartAudio, or IDT High Definition Audio --> Uninstall.
  3. Type Control Panel in the search box then open Control Panel.
  4. Select Programs and Features. Uninstall anything related to Realtek, Conexant, or IDT & Dolby. Reboot if prompted.

Reinstall Windows 10 audio driver

Option One: Reinstall via Update driver software under Device Manager

  1. Open Device Manager. Select the Search icon. Type and select Device Manager.

  2. Navigate and expand Sound, video and game controllers.
  3. Right-click High Definition Audio Device, then select Properties.
  4. Select Update Driver under the Driver tab. Select Search automatically for updated driver software.

  5. If the audio driver does not reinstall correctly or the Dolby issue still persists, try Option Two.

Option Two: Reinstall from Lenovo support website

Option 1: Support Site Driver download listing

  1. Open Lenovo Support site. Select Browse Product and select your product name or type the product name in the search box.

  2. On the product page, click Drivers & Software.
  3. Select the Manual Update option.
  4. Set Component to Audio.

  5. Download the Windows 10 audio driver.
  6. Click the .exe file then follow the on-screen instructions to install.

Option 2: Lenovo System Update

When using THINK products, download drivers automatically using the Lenovo System Update. Download the Lenovo System Update at: Lenovo System Update.

Alternative Method

  1. Right-click the sound icon in the taskbar located at the bottom right of the screen and select Playback Devices.
  2. Select the current playback device in use. Double-click the device to open the properties window.
  3. Click the Advanced tab.
  4. Choose lower or higher bitrate (use 24bit/44100 Hz or 24bit/192000Hz – depending on the device).
