      System board installation movie

Text of the audio portion of this movie

      To remove the system board:

      1. Place the system in the service position.
      2. Turn off the system and all attached perpherial devices.
      3. Disconnect the power cords and all external signal cables. Open the top cover.
      4. Press the cover release buttons, one on each side and rotate the cover up to the open position.
      5. Open the drive bay assembly. Grasp the assemble and rotate to the open position.
      6. Remove the riser card assembly. Note that the top cover has been removed for better viewing of this assembly.
      7. Grasp the handle and lift straight up to disconnect the riser card from the connector.
      8. Remove the DIMM. Push out on the two latches. Lift the DIMM out of the socket and place it on a static protected surface.
      9. Remove the heat sink. Prior to removing the heat sink, you should power on the system for a few minutes to soften the thermal layer so the heat sink can easily be removed, then power off.
      10. Rotate the heat sink release lever to the open position.
      11. Pivot the heat sink up to disengage the bottom end of the heat sink from the lip on the heat sink retention bracket.
      12. Rotate the processor release lever to the open position.
      13. Open the processor retainer. Place the vacuum tool in the center of the processor and squeeze the tool to apply suction to the processor. Gently lift the processor straight up from the socket. Use care not to touch the contacts because any contamination can damage them. If the processor is going to be removed for any length of time, you must install a dust cover to protect the socket from contamination.
      14. Close the processor retainer. Note that when you replace a processor, you must return the processor replacement tool, along with the replaced processor, in the packaging provided. The replaced heat sink should be disposed of locally.
      15. Disconnect the following cables from the system board:
        1. Intrusion switch
        2. SATA Signal
        3. P1
        4. P2
        5. Optical drive signal
        6. Diskette drive signal
        7. Fan power
        8. Power switch LED
      16. Remove the system board. Pull up on the system board latching ring to release the system board from the base.
      17. Slide the board towards the front of the system to clear the retaining posts then lift it out of the chassis and place it on an ESD protected surface. Here is a closer look at the latching ring action. Here is a closer look at a retaining post.
