On IdeaPad Y480 with Windows 8 installed, battery charging is stuck at around 58% maximum battery life, with a message that the laptop is plugged in and not charging. A battery reset in the Energy Management tool is only solving this problem temporarily.

This symptom could be due to a battery life optimization setting in energy management. The Maximum battery life setting configures the battery to extend lifespan while trading off system run time / capacity.
Under Energy Management, make sure you select Optimized Battery health as this will let you charge up to 100% and will provide maximum run time per charge (in conjunction with power saver power plan settings). Maximum battery life will limit the charging up to 59% to prolong battery lifespan.
