USB devices connected to ThinkPad docks will not wake ThinkPad notebooks when ThinkPad is in S3 (Standby) state

The USB mouse or keyboard attached, either wired or wirelessly, will not wake the ThinkPad from the S3 (Standby) state by pressing the mouse buttons or the keyboard buttons if the USB devices are attached to the ThinkPad dock.

Affected configurations

The above symptom is associated with, but not limited to, the following systems:

  • ThinkPad

Affected Systems (machine types, model types):

  • Any ThinkPad notebook system attached to ThinkPad docks with USB devices attached to dock.

System is configured with:

  • Any Lenovo ThinkPad attached to ThinkPad dock models (4336-xxx, 4337-xxx, 4338-xxx, 40A0xxx, 40A1xxx, 40A2xxx)

  • Microsoft Windows 8
  • Microsoft Windows 7
  • Microsoft Windows Vista
  • Microsoft Windows XP
  • Microsoft Windows 2000

This is not a limitation of the ThinkPad dock or of ThinkPad notebook systems.  This function is by design.

Press the ThinkPad dock Power button to resume the system from the S3 (Standby) state or attach the USB devices directly to USB ports on ThinkPad system.
