If you're having trouble connecting to Wi-Fi with the symptoms below, try the solutions provided.
- Unable to detect any wireless name/SSID
- Wi-Fi icon on your screen is orange or has an exclamation point
- Unable to connect to wireless any networks
Since this issue could be caused by several possibilities please follow all the methods documented in the solution section to see which resolves your issue.
If you are able to connect but is experiencing frequent intermittent / drop signals please follow Frequently drop or intermittent wireless connection Window 7, 8 and 10

Let’s start with some quick troubleshooting to make sure basic rules are adhered to be able to connect to a wireless network
- Make sure Wi-Fi is turned on your device How to enable and disable Wi-Fi
- Make sure flight mode is turned off
- Make sure your selecting the correct wireless name in range and using the correct network password to connect, Wireless networks with low signals will show connected but you will not be able to browse the internet
- Check your router and modern, Make sure the lights are as mentioned in the user guide of your service provider
- Please ensure your inputting the write password key. At times if you enter the wrong password it will show connected but you will not be able to browse the internet
First figure out if the problem is with your Lenovo Device or the Wi-Fi network:
- Device/Machine problems: Try connecting to the Wi-Fi network with another device, like a laptop computer or friend's phone. If any other devices can connect to and use the wireless network, the problem is most likely specific to your device.
- Network/Router problems: Check to see if your device can connect to a Wi-Fi network at another location, like a friend's house or a public network. If it can, the problem is most likely specific to the Wi-Fi network.
Then try the troubleshooting steps below based on whether the problem is with your device or the network.

Method 1: Detect wireless networks in range
First it’s important to know if your device can detect any sort of wireless networks in range
- Click Start &go; Control Panel &go; Network and Internet
- Click on Connect to a network. A list of wireless network in range should appear. If there is no Wifi network in range or the option is unavailable please proceed to No wireless connection - Unable to detect any wireless networks in range.-Window 7, 8 & 10
Windows 8, 8.1 & 10
- Click Start &go; Settings &go; Network & Internet
- Under the Wifi tab on the right you should see Wireless networks in range. If there is no Wifi tab please proceed to No wireless connection - Unable to detect any wireless networks in range.-Window 7, 8 & 10
If you do see wireless networks in range. Try to connect to your wireless network name. Once connected try to browse the internet. If failed proceed to next step
Method 2: Update Network Drivers
Windows 7, 8,8.1 & 10
- Click Start and type "Device Manager" in the search box. Click Device Manager
- Locate Network Adapters and expand the menu
- Right-click on each / all network adapter one by one and select Uninstall.
- Once all have been removed, right-click again and select Scan for hardware changes.
- The adapters will be rediscovered and when the drivers are loaded back, the devices will re-appear in Network Connections.
- Please proceed if issue still persists
Method 3: Remove Lenovo Access Connection software ( ThinkCenter & ThinkPads)
Windows 8 and 10
If you have just updated to Windows 8 or 10 please remove the Lenovo Access Connection Software that is used to as a connectivity assistant program. Removing the software will allow Windows Networking software to take charge
- Click Start and go to Control Panel
- Under programs click uninstall programs
- Look for Thinkvantage Access Connections
- Right click and select uninstall
- Please reboot your machine for this to take affect
Update the software or remove it as well
- Visit https://support.lenovo.com
- Enter your product model at the home page
- Click on Drivers and Software’s.
- Select your operating system Windows 7 and search for Access Connection in the keyword search box
- Download and install
Method 4: Reset TCP/IP Stack and auto tuning
- Click Start menu and type Command Prompt. Right click Command Prompt and choose to Run as administrator
- Type the command NETSH INT IP RESET C:\RESTLOG.TXT in the appearing black window
- Press Enter key to execute the command
- On the following line type the command NETSH INT TCP SET HEURISTICS DISABLED and hit Enter
- Type NETSH INT TCP SET GLOBAL AUTOTUNINGLEVEL=DISABLEDand hit Enter
- Type the command NETSH INT TCP SET GLOBAL RSS=ENABLED and hit Enter
Method 5: Release and Renew the IP Address
This command sends several packets to the address you specify. The web server responds to each packet it receives
Windows 7, 8,8.1 & 10
- Launch Command Prompt ( CMD ) by simply searching ( CMD ) in the search panel
- A black box should appear
- Type ipconfig /release (Note: there is a space after inconfig)
- Then type in ipconfig /renew (Note: there is a space after inconfig)
- You should then receive a TCP/IP address appropriate to your network, along with a Default Gateway address.
- Try to browse the internet, If you your unable to proceed to step
Method 6: See if an app/firewall is causing the problem
There could be an application or firewall that is interfering with the internet connection. To troubleshoot this we can try to start Windows in Safe Mode. This will start windows without any application installed. If in safe mode you are able to connect to the internet then it must be an app/firewall that is blocking the connection

- Once you're in safe mode, try connecting to the Wi-Fi network again
- If the Wi-Fi connection works in safe mode, an installed app is most likely causing your issue.
- Restart your device to exit safe mode.
- Uninstall recently downloaded apps one by one. See whether the connection works.
- Disable your firewall
- If the Wi-Fi connection doesn't work in safe mode, there's most likely a problem with the Wi-Fi network. See the section "Troubleshoot problems with the network/Router" below.
A. Restart the Wi-Fi router and modem
- Unplug the router or modem's power cords from the power outlet for 15 seconds.
- Plug the cords back in and it should turn on automatically.
- Wait until the lights on the modem and router are working as intended (this can take a minute or two).
If the lights on the router or modem aren't flashing as intended according to the manufacturer or manual, there may be an issue with the modem, router, or Internet connection. Contact the network administrator or your Internet Service Provider to see if they can resolve this issue on their end.
