Unsupported Browser Detected

The Lenovo Support website supports Microsoft Internet Explorer 10+, Mozilla Firefox 29+, Chrome 34+ and any other modern web browser.

      ExpressCache software is incompatible with disk encryption.

      Symptom

      ExpressCache and disk encryption are incompatible.  This is true for all types of encryption: both hardware (e.g. OPAL and FDE) and software (e.g. BitLocker, Sophos SafeGuard, WinMagic SecureDoc, etc).  One or more of the following symptoms may be observed:

      1. The cache may not work at all.  The system may perform the same with or without the ExpressCache software installed.
      2. The cache may not be encrypted.  This defeats the purpose of deploying encryption.
      3. The ExpressCache software may cause unwanted side-effects in the encryption software, such as lock-outs or data corruption.

       

      Affected configurations


      The above symptom is associated with, but not limited to, the following ThinkPad systems:

      • All ThinkPad

      The system is configured with:

      • mSATA or M.2 SSD and ExpressCache software

      Applies to:

      • Microsoft Windows 7
      • Microsoft Windows 8

       

      Solution


      None.

       

      Workaround

      Users requiring the security of disk encryption should uninstall ExpressCache software.
