ICH9M-E/M option does not appear in the F6 menu during Windows install - ThinkPad R400, R500, T400, T500, W500, X200, X200s, X200 Tablet, X301


The Intel(R) ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller option is not listed when using F6 to install a third party mass storage controller driver during the initial Windows install. Instead, four options are listed:

  • Intel(R) ICH7R/DH SATA RAID Controller
  • Intel(R) ICH7MDH SATA RAID Controller
  • Intel(R) ICH8R/ICH9R/ICH10R SATA RAID Controller
  • Intel(R) ICH8M-E/ICH9M-E SATA RAID Controller

Intel(R) ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller is required for all Montevina chipset systems with a S-ATA controller set to Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI) mode.

Affected configurations

The following ThinkPad systems running microsoft Windows Vista or XP may be affected by this symptom:

  • ThinkPad R400, R500
  • ThinkPad T400, T500
  • ThinkPad W500
  • ThinkPad X200, X200s, X200 Tablet, X301

While the option is not initially displayed, it is present. Use the arrow keys to scroll up through the list of available controller drivers. Once Intel(R) ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller is highlighted, press Enter to continue.
