      Wireless configuration under Linux - ThinkPad A31, R40, T23, T30, T40

There are a variety of wireless cards available on ThinkPad computers.

ThinkPad High Rate Wireless LAN Mini PCI adapter

The ThinkPad T30, some models of the T23, A31, and R40 systems are shipped with an ThinkPad High Rate Wireless LAN mini PCI adapter. The Linux command /sbin/lspci reports it as:

Network controller: Harris Semiconductor Prism 2.5 Wavelan chipset

Under Red Hat Linux 8.0 and 9.0, as well as SuSE Linux 8.1 and 8.2, use the "orinoco_pci" driver, which is usually automatically configured for you. Otherwise you can get a driver from the following website http://hostap.epitest.fi/.

      Cisco wireless card

In this case you should use the "ACU" driver from the following Cisco Web site: http://www.cisco.com/pcgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/aironet-utils-linux

The ThinkPad T40 system comes with a choice of three different wireless cards. Currently, the only card that is supported under Linux is the Cisco card. The driver is the same as the "ACU" driver listed above. The Phillips/Atheros wireless card and the Intel Centrino wireless card are not yet supported under Linux.
