      Power Manager, Access Connections or Lenovo Fingerprint Software might take longer time to open when your system is connected to an internal network

      Symptom

      When you try to open the Power Manager, Access Connections or Lenovo(R) Fingerprint Software program in the Microsoft(R) Windows Vista(R) or Windows(R) 7 operating system, the program might open with a 60-second delay. This problem occurs when the system is connected to a network that is not an active Internet connection by cable.

      Affected configurations

      Any systems running Microsoft Windows Vista or Windows 7 with Power Manager, Access Connections or Lenovo Fingerprint Software installed

      Solution

      This problem is caused by the Microsoft .NET Framework. Power Manager, Access Connections, and Lenovo Fingerprint Software are .NET Framework managed applications, which will try to connect to the Internet for Authenticode(R) signature verification when they open.

      The workaround is to disable the Authenticode signature verification in a .NET Framework managed application. You can create a TXT file, paste the following content into the file, and then rename the TXT file for each program.

      <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
      <?configuration>
      <?runtime>
      <?generatePublisherEvidence enabled="false"/>
      <?/runtime>
      <?/configuration>

      • For Power Manager, name the file as PWMUI.EXE.config
        On 32-bit operating systems, copy the file to the C:\Program Files\ThinkPad\Utilities directory.
        On 64-bit operating systems, copy the file to the C:\Program Files(x86)\ThinkPad\Utilities directory.

      • For Access Connections, name the file as Access Connections.exe.config
        On 32-bit operating systems, copy the file to the C:\Program Files\ThinkPad\ConnectUtilities directory.
        On 64-bit operating systems, copy the file to the C:\Program Files(x86)\ThinkPad\ ConnectUtilities directory.

      • For Lenovo Fingerprint Software, name the file as FPApp.exe.config
        On 32-bit operating systems, copy the file to the C:\Program Files\Lenovo Fingerprint Software directory.
        On 64-bit operating systems, copy the file to the C:\Program Files(x86)\ Lenovo Fingerprint Software directory.
