AMT remote power on/off may not work with ME Power Package 1, 2, or 4 - ThinkCentre M57p, M58, M58p

      Symptom

With Intel Management Engine (ME) Power Policy set to Power Package 1, 2, or 4, AMT function "Remote power on/off" may not work.

      Affected configurations

The above symptom may occur on the following systems:

      • ThinkCentre M57p (type 9011, 9014, 9071, 9089, 9162, 9303, 6064, 6067, 6073, 6078, 6088, 9196, 9012, 9018, 9087, 9096, 9163, 9193, 9013, 9019, 9088, 9160, 9164, 9194)
      • ThinkCentre M58 (type (6139, 6175, 8820, 7187, 7348, 7359, 7626, 7637, 8910, 7174, 7354, 7360, 7627, 7638, 6258, 6303, 9960, 7244, 7355, 7373, 7628, 7639, 6239, 6302)
      • ThinkCentre M58p (type 7345, 7346, 7347, 7356, 7357, 7358, 7479, 7483, 7484, 7629, 7630, 7635, 8338, 9961, 9964, 9965, 6209, 6137, 7220, 6234, 6138, 7188)

The system Intel Management Engine (ME) supports the following:

Power Package 1 Supported (Desktop: ON in S0)

Power Package 2 Supported (Desktop: ON in S0, S3)

Power Package 3 Supported (Desktop: ON in S0, S3, S4-5)

Power Package 4 Supported (Desktop: ON in S0, ME WoL in S3)

Power Package 5 Supported (Desktop: ON in S0, ME WoL in S3, S4-5)

Power Package 6 Supported (Desktop: ON in S0, S3, S4-5, OFF After Power Loss)

Power Package 7 Supported (Desktop: ON in S0, ME WoL in S3, S4-5, OFF After Power Loss)

With ME Power Policy set to Power Package 1, 2, or 4, ME will be set to an inactive status when the system is in S5 (OFF) modes, so the ME can not react to an AMT power on message and the remote power on will fail.

      Solution

      Do not replace any hardware.

Change the ME Power Policy setting to Power Package 3 or 5 to correct this issue.

There are several ways to change it:

      - Through the MEBx (Management Engine BIOS Extensions)

      - Through the WebUI (Web User Interface)

      - Through a provisioning server
