Microsoft Windows Autopilot: FAQ and Troubleshooting Guide

When the system is powered on, the Windows Welcome Screen is not as expected. How to fix this issue?
Following a motherboard replacement or you purchase a refurbished device, when the system powers on (system boot), the Windows Welcome Screen is not as expected and is different.
❶ Customer company.
❷ Customer email address.
This occurs when the system motherboard was previously enrolled in the Microsoft Windows Autopilot program. Windows Autopilot is designed for IT administrators to set up, pre-configure new devices, and get them ready for use.
Lenovo repairs motherboards. As a result, if the previous user registers the Windows Autopilot and does not de-register the motherboard before a repair, the motherboard information is linked to with Azure Active Directory(Azure AD) tenant.
The following options are available: Use the following steps to fix the problem.
Windows Autopilot user
1. Deregister the device.
l Submit a ticket to Microsoft via your Microsoft Volume Licensing Center agreement to get support, the information can be found: Get support in Microsoft Endpoint Manager admin center - Microsoft Intune | Microsoft Learn
l Contact your IT Administrator. The IT Admininstrator can deregister device, or contact Lenovo.
2. Reset your device.
Not a Windows Autopilot user
1. De-register the device.
l Submit a ticket to Microsoft via your Microsoft Volume Licensing Center agreement to get support. The information can be found: Get support in Microsoft Endpoint Manager admin center - Microsoft Intune | Microsoft Learn
l Contact Lenovo.
2. Reset your device.
If the problem is still present, recover the operating system and try again. See Lenovo Digital Download Recovery Service (DDRS) for information.

What should i do if Autopilot cannot launch after replacing a motherboard?
Use the following steps:
1. De-register the device fom Intune.
§ Before deregistration, it’s very important to check the operating system (OS) version and Inture version, to identify best registration method for your device.

2. Capture a new Autopilot device ID (4K HH) from the device after motherboard replacement.
With login credentials |
Use any one of below tools capture 4K HH 1. OA3 Tool(which is part of the ADK) 2. PowerShell script |

Reimage the OS, then use any one of below tools capture 4K HH 1. OA3 Tool (which is part of the ADK) 2. PowerShell script |

3. Re-register the repaired device using the new Autopilot device ID(4K HH).
§ To re-register an Autopilot device from Intune, an IT Admin would:
§ Sign in to Intune.
§ Navigate to Device enrollment > Windows enrollment > Devices > Import.
§ Click the Import button to upload a csv file containing the device ID of the device to be reregistered. The device ID is the 4K HH captured by the PowerShell script or OA3 tool described previously in this document.

4. Reset the device:
§ Go to Settings → Update & Security → Recovery and click Get started. Under Reset this PC, select Remove everything and Just remove my files. Finally, click Reset.
