Enhanced Performance keyboard causes corrupt registry keys - ThinkCentre A50, A51p, M51, S50, E50


The preloaded software for the Enhanced Performance keyboard may corrupt registry keys in the Microsoft Registry.

Affected configurations

Any of the following systems running Microsoft Windows XP configured with Enhanced Performance keyboard with replacement (FRU) part number of 89P8800:

  • ThinkCentre A50 (type 8084, 8085, 8089, 8090, 8126, 8147, 8148, 8149, 8175, 8176, 8177, 8178)
  • ThinkCentre A51p (type 8420, 8421, 8422, 8423, 8424, 8425, 8427, 8428)
  • ThinkCentre E50 (type 8290, 8291, 8292, 8293, 8294, 8295, 9214, 9215, 9216, 9217, 9218, 9219)
  • ThinkCentre M51 (type 8141, 8142, 8143, 8144, 8145, 8146)
  • ThinkCentre S50 (type 8086, 8087, 8088)

Corrupted folders in the registry do not contain any values; they are empty and can be deleted from the registry.

Attention: Using the Microsoft Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Use the Microsoft Registry Editor at your own risk.

Note: Backup the registry before editing.

Editing the registry

  1. Click Start.
  2. Select Run, type Regedit.exe, and then click OK.
  3. Select the HKEY_CURRENT_USER key and locate all folders which are corrupted. Once the folder is selected, verify that no information appears on the right side of the window.
  4. Select the Edit menu.
  5. Select Delete.
