High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) port

Operating System

Chrome OS

Limitations

Not all televisions and other devices support HDMI.

Solution

To set up a Chromebook HDMI connection

  1. Ensure the Chromebook is turned off.
  2. Plug one end of an HDMI cable into the HDMI port of the Chromebook, and the other end into the desired device. In many cases this will be a video projector or HDTV.
  3. Turn on the other device.
  4. Power on the Chromebook. The Chromebook will find the HDMI connection during the startup scan.
  5. To adjust volume using the volume keys on the Chromebook:
    • To turn the volume up, press Volume up button.
    • To turn the volume down, press Volume down.
    • To mute audio, press Mute the audio.

To troubleshoot a Chromebook HDMI connection

  1. Ensure the Chromebook is powered on last.
  2. Ensure audio is not muted on the Chromebook.
  3. Try powering the Chromebook off and back on. Press the refresh Refresh button and power Power button keys at the same time. This will perform a hard reboot of the system which may resolve the issue. Note: this will not delete or close any open files. After the reboot, try again.
  4. Swap out cables to determine if the cable is bad.
  5. Verify audio output via the Chromebook headset jack or speakers.
  6. To test the connection up to the Chromebook, swap out the Chromebook for another laptop and test. If this works, the problem is with the Chromebook. If this fails, the problem is not the Chromebook.
  7. If testing points to a problem with Chromebook hardware, please contact Lenovo Service for support.

Additional Information
