      PLDS DVD-ROM DH-16D5S firmware VL34 - ThinkStation E20, S20, D20, ThinkCentre A63, M58, M58p, M90, M90p


      This firmware package fixes a problem in which the PLDS DVD-ROM model DH-16D5S may not be able to read certain discs after having been idle for more than 30 seconds.

      Affected configurations

      The above symptom is associated with, but not limited to, the following systems:

      • ThinkStation E20, S20, D20
      • ThinkCentre A63, M58, M58p, M90, M90p

      Applies to:

      • Microsoft Windows 7
      • Microsoft Windows Vista
      • Microsoft Windows XP Professional
      • Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
      • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
      • Microsoft Windows PE
      • Linux

      The system is configured with the following optical drive:

      PLDS DVD-ROM model DH-16D5S, p/n 45K0436, FRU# 41N3325 or 71Y5543, firmware revisions VL31 or VL33


      This package applies to systems configured with the PLDS DH-16D5S SATA DVD-ROM drive, firmware revisions VL31 or VL33.

      Click here to download the firmware update.

      The flash utility will automatically reboot the system when complete. We recommend you close all applications and save your data prior to upgrading the firmware. Do not power down or restart your system while the firmware upgrade is in progress.

      Download the VL34WIN.exe file. Go to the folder where you saved it, and click on the VL34WIN icon. The firmware update proceeds automatically. When it is complete, your will computer will automatically reboot. The firmware update will take effect after your computer reboots.


      The drive will be able to read the disc if you eject and reinsert it.
