      BSOD 0x00000050 after Microsoft patch KB2670838 applied - ThinkCentre, ThinkStation, ThinkServer, ThinkPad, Idea Tablet, IdeaPad, IdeaCentre

      Symptom

      BSOD 0x00000050 occurs when user is browsing with Internet Explorer 9, Firefox, or Chrome.  After being diagnosed by the Windows debugger, the root cause is "igdpm.sys" failure which is a component of the video driver.

      Affected configurations

      The above symptom is associated with but not limited to the following systems:

      • ThinkCentre
      • ThinkStation
      • ThinkServer
      • ThinkPad
      • Idea Tablet
      • IdeaPad
      • IdeaCentre

      System is configured with:

      • All ATI Display systems
      • Applied Windows Update KB2670838

      Operating Systems:

      • Microsoft Windows 7 64bit
      Solution

      1.  Update to the latest Video driver from the following URL:

      http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?LegacyDocID=DRVR-MATRIX

      2.  Remove Microsoft KB2670838.  Set the Microsoft KB2670838 to be hidden in the Microsoft Windows update or temporarily disable Microsoft Windows Auto Update; otherwise, it will auto-update again.
