      IBM Client Security Software - System will not shutdown or restart after being in standby mode

      Symptom
      You may find that you are unable to shutdown or restart the system after having entered the passphrase to bring the machine out of standby mode.

      Affected configurations
      Any of the following IBM systems running Microsoft Windows XP or Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional configured with IBM Client Security Software (CSS):

      • ThinkCentre S50 (type 8183, 8184)
      • ThinkCentre M50 (type 8185, 8187, 8188, 8189)
      • NetVista 2251, 2254, 2255, 2256, 2257, 2271, 2273, 2275, 2283, 6043, 6058, 6059, 6274, 6280, 6290, 6336, 6337, 6339, 6341, 6342, 6346, 6347, 6348, 6568, 6569, 6578, 6579, 6596, 6599, 6644, 6645, 6646, 6647, 6648, 6649, 6650, 6790, 6791, 6792, 6793, 6794, 6795, 6822, 6830, 6831, 6837, 6838, 6840, 6841, 6842, 6843, 6844, 6847, 6848, 6881, 8181, 8182, 8301, 8303, 8304, 8305 8306, 8307, 8308, 8309, 8310, 8311, 8312, 8313, 8314, and 8315 systems
      • ThinkPad A30, A30p, A31, A31p, R30, R31, R32, R40, R50, R50p, T20, T21, T22, T41, T41p, X30 and X30 systems

      Workaround

      1. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete on the keyboard. The Windows Security window will appear.
      2. Click Shutdown. The system can be either Shutdown or Restarted from here.
