When a system is powered on after it has been left off for several hours, it may take an unusually long time to get to the Operating System desktop. This problem does not occur during a warm boot.

The above symptom is associated with, but not limited to, any of the following systems built as of 2009 to current date.

      • All ThinkCentre
      • All ThinkStation

      Applies To:

      • All Operating System

The following Seagate SATA HDD models may be affected:

Q1. Can I experience any data loss because of this problem?
A1. No. This is a slow boot performance issue, and does not result in any data loss.

Q2. Is this same issue as other PC Manufacturers have reported in previous Seagate firmware updates in 2009 & 2010?
A2. Seagate told Lenovo that this was a recently discovered issue which only affects the 2010 production part numbers listed in the tip. We are not aware of this issue being reported on any other family of Seagate HDD.

Q3. Were we slow in releasing this firmware update?
A3. No. We released the firmware as soon as Seagate made it available to us. This issue is unrelated to any other firmware issues that might have been seen on previous generations of Seagate HDD.

Q4. Should I install this firmware update?
A4. Customers who are not experiencing the slow boot up issue described in this TIP, do not need to apply this firmware update.

Q5. Does this FW update utility (ISO) and application (OS) work with a target hard drive which has originally running firmware levels CC67 and CC68
A5. Yes, the utilities support firmware levels CC66, CC67 and CC68.

Q6, The ISO lists firmware updates for the 750GB and 1TB drives. Are those two drive capacities affected by this issue?
A6. No. 750 GB and 1 TB drives (i.e. ST3750528AS, ST31000528AS ), are not affected by this issue and do not require a firmware update.

Q7. Do I need to install this firmware update on any future systems or FRU parts received from Lenovo?
A7. No. Seagate has already implemented a screen for this issue in December 2010. All drives shipped after that date are not affected by this issue.
