In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), and in the interests of public safety, Lenovo is voluntarily recalling some Lenovo USB-C Laptop Power Banks.
Lenovo has determined that in a limited number of units, the power bank’s internal screws can come loose, causing a short circuit, and overheating of the lithium-ion battery, posing a fire hazard.
Lenovo USB-C Laptop Power Banks with a manufacturing date label before December 2021, and after June 2022, are not affected.
To confirm if your Lenovo USB-C Laptop Power Bank (Part Number: 40ALLG2WWW) is affected, follow the instructions below in the Determine if my power bank is being recalled section.

Q3. Is it dangerous to continue to use these products while waiting for a replacement?
A. Customers should immediately stop using affected power banks and submit a request for a replacement device via the Lenovo special replacement program to have their power bank replaced.
Q4. Have there been any reports of fire or damage to property?
A. Lenovo has received one report of fire and minimal property damage.
Q5. How much will the replacement cost?
A. Lenovo is offering a special replacement program free of charge.
Q6. How long will customers have to wait to get their power bank replaced?
A. Once a customer has submitted a request for a replacement device via the special replacement program, our Support representative will set up the replacement process for customers with minimal delay.
Q7. Why did Lenovo issue a recall?
A. Lenovo received one customer report worldwide of an overheat condition related to a loose screw which resulted in a short on a circuit with exposed contacts leading to damage to the customer's power bank. Lenovo has received no report of damage to persons and report of only minimal damage to property. Lenovo is committed to safety and decided to announce this recall out of an abundance of caution.
Q8. Are other products included in the recall?
A. No. This issue is limited to some Lenovo USB-C Laptop Power Bank’s (PN: 40ALLG2WWW) with a manufacturing date label between December 2021 and June 2022. The affected power banks can be identified by part number, build date, and serial number. Units with a build date of November 2021 or earlier, and July 2022 or later are not affected. The build date is located on the bottom of the power bank on the same sticker as the SN. The format is YY/MM. Any unit with a build date earlier than 21/12 or later than 22/06 is not affected.
Q9. How did you discover this problem?
A. Lenovo received one customer report worldwide of an overheat condition related to a loose screw which resulted in a short on a circuit with exposed contacts leading to damage to the customer's power bank. Lenovo has received no report of damage to persons and report of only minimal damage to property.
Q10. What exactly is the cause of this problem?
A. Lenovo’s investigation and analysis determined that small screws have the potential to become loose in the affected power banks and could cause a short on a circuit with exposed contacts, leading to overheating. This defect has led to one failure in the field.
Q11. How long have you known about these problems?
A. Lenovo began investigating the issue immediately after receiving the one report relating to overheating. After completing the appropriate prompt investigation, we voluntarily contacted the CPSC and have cooperated fully with their guidelines and recommendations to announce the recall as soon as possible.
Q12. If you’ve known about these problems for a few weeks, why didn't you recall these products before now?
A. Lenovo needed time to investigate the root cause, identify exposed power banks, and voluntarily raise the issue with the CPSC. Once the CPSC becomes involved, we are obligated to follow their guidelines and recommendations. We have been working with the CPSC over the past few weeks to ensure all necessary documentation and actions were in place.
Q13. Is this recall indicative of a design flaw with Lenovo products?
A. No. The recall is due to a manufacturing process lapse which Lenovo’s engineers have subsequently fixed. Having taken the time to fully understand and correct this manufacturing issue, Lenovo is fully confident that its current Lenovo USB-C Laptop Power Banks meet Lenovo’s high quality and safety standards.
Q14. How do I know that your “fix” will work?
A. Lenovo has identified the root cause of the screws becoming loose and put in place several countermeasures and process enhancements, with redundant layers of safety, to ensure the issue has been remedied. This process will eliminate the risk identified in this recall.
Q15. My power bank has an affected Part Number and is within the manufacturing date range, but the Lenovo recall website says I am not affected. Why?
A. Not all the units with a manufacturing date label between 21/12 and 22/06 are affected and being recalled. Lenovo has determined the specific Serial Numbers being recalled. To verify if your power bank’s Serial Number is affected, please submit the Serial Number on the replacement device request site.
Q16. Are all countries where this product was shipped impacted?
A. No, not all countries in which this product was shipped are impacted. Only countries that Lenovo has determined were shipped units with specific serial numbers with a specific build date range are impacted.
