    Note: BIOS update on the PC with Revision 0D TPM chip and with 7JET25WW BIOS or later versions to 7JET24WW or older versions is inhibited.

Installation instructions
Notes:
  • The ThinkPad Configuration utility must be installed prior to updating the BIOS.
  • Remove the Power-on password prior to updating the BIOS in RDM (Remote Deployment Manager) environment or similar environment.
  • You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the BIOS.
  • If your computer is attached to any kind of docking station or port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding.
  1. Print these instructions or display on another computer.
  2. Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer.
  3. Start Windows 7 32-bit, Vista 32-bit, XP and logon with administrative privileges on the target computer.
  4. Double-click 7juj13us.exe to extract it to your hard drive. The default location is C:\DRIVERS\FLASH\7juj13us.
  5. For Windows 7 and Vista, click Start, select All Programs, select Accessories, then click Run... For Windows XP, click Start, then click Run...
  6. Specify WINUPTP.EXE with the full path name where you saved the package, then click OK. Example: C:\DRIVERS\FLASH\7juj13us\WINUPTP.EXE
  7. Follow the instructions on the screen.
  8. Select Update ThinkPad BIOS and follow the instructions on the screen.
  9. After the update has been completed, the program shows a message Flash Update has been successfully completed.... Follow the instructions on the screen to restart the computer.

Attention: Do not turn off or suspend the system until the update has been completed. If you turn off or suspend the system while the update is still in progress, the system board may have to be replaced.

Unattended Update

This procedure is intended only for system administrators. The BIOS is updated without any user interaction.

  • Refer to the Manual Update section, and download and extract the files.
  • At the command line, execute WINUPTP.EXE with the -S option. Example: C:\DRIVERS\FLASH\7juj13us\WINUPTP.EXE -s

To view the update result, refer to the WINUPTP.log file created at the same directory of the package.


Initializing the BIOS
BIOS Initialization is suggested for some problems. To initialize the BIOS settings:
  1. Turn on the system.
  2. While the To interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F1 key.
  3. The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If you have set a supervisor password, the BIOS Setup Utility menu appears after you enter the password.
  4. Press the F9 key to load default configuration.
  5. Select Yes.
  6. Press the F10 key to save default configuration and exit.
  7. Select Yes.
  8. Restart the computer.

Notes:

  • After initialization you may need to reapply some settings that you had changed previously.
  • After the initialization has been completed, the system restarts automatically.
BIOS information
Each version of the ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility contains the following system program (BIOS) and the Embedded Controller program. The BIOS Version and the and the the Embedded Controller version number can be viewed by entering the BIOS Setup Utility.
  1. Turn on the system.

  3. The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password.
  4. Check BIOS Version and Embedded Controller Version.

Memory Map information
Reserved Area
The following conventional memory addresses are reserved by the system program (BIOS) and others.
  • C0000-CE7FF: Reserved for Video BIOS
  • CE800-D07FF: Reserved for Option ROM of Ethernet (*1)
  • DC000-DFFFF: Reserved for USB BIOS (*2)
  • E0000-FFFFF: Reserved for System BIOS

Notes:

  • (*1) This area becomes free by disabling the Internal Network Option ROM option under Config and Network in BIOS Setup Utility. This choice will disable PXE and WOL features.
  • (*2) This area becomes free by disabling the USB BIOS Support option under Config and USB in the BIOS Setup Utility. This choice does not affect using USB devices in Windows operating systems.

Usable Area
The following memory address can be used by the memory manager such as EMM386.
  • D0800-DBFFF

Note: Certain addresses in this area will be reserved for CardBus Controllers or others by Operating Systems. The addresses vary and depend on the design of each Operating System.
