  1. Today we are going to be replacing the memory module. This process will take about 10 minutes and it should be easy enough for anyone to do. There are no tools required to do this.
  2. Before we continue, we need to make sure that we are protected against electrostatic discharge, or ESD. Make sure to shut down the computer and disconnect all cables and accessories from the system. For further information, watch our Understanding Electrostatic Discharge video.
  3. And now that we are ready, let's get started!
  4. Before removing the computer cover, we must first remove two thumb screws.
  5. Then we are going to press the release button, slide the cover towards the rear of the system, and remove it.
  6. To remove the memory module, we need to press outward on the two clips to release the module.
  7. And then grasp the module by the edges, and lift it up and out of the socket.
  8. And here we have our replacement memory module.
  9. When replacing the memory module, it is important that the notch on the module is aligned with the tab in the socket.
  10. And once we have those lined up, we can press down on the edges of the module until the clips lock it into place.
  11. When replacing the cover, it is important that the tabs on the inside of the cover line up with the holes in the chassis.
  12. Then once you have those lined up, you just slide the cover towards the front of the system.
  13. Now we are going to replace two thumb screws.
