If the touchpad on your Lenovo laptop is not working, the first step to addressing the problem is to make sure you have the latest driver updates.
To install or update the touchpad driver, open your internet browser and go to support.lenovo.com. Type your computer’s model name in the search box: for example, “ThinkPad T450”. This allows you to access all resources and services for your machine model.
On the menu bar, click Drivers & software. If you see the operating system shown on top of the list, make sure it is correct. If not, choose the correct one from the drop-down menu.
In the Components menu, select Mouse and Keyboard.
Click on Mouse and Keyboard to show the available drivers. Sometimes, like in this example, you can recognize the touchpad driver from the name, like “Synaptics” or “Elan”.
Click Download, then click Run. Once the download is completed, you will be prompted to install the driver. Follow the instructions to complete the installation.
If the driver installs correctly but the touchpad is still not working, or if you do not find a touchpad driver, make sure the touchpad is enabled. You can check out our video on how to enable or disable the touchpad.
It may also happen that your touchpad sensitivity is set too low and makes you think there is a problem.
Go to the touchpad settings and increase the sensitivity. To open the touchpad settings in Windows 10, type "touchpad" in the search box, and then click on Touchpad settings. Adjust the touchpad sensitivity using the drop-down list. If you are using Windows 7, go check our videos on how to do the same on your Lenovo or ThinkPad laptop.
