IdeaPad Y450 could not recognize the Ethernet controller correctly after installing Windows 7. Error messages may appear when you tried to install the driver for it.
The above symptom may occur on the following systems:
All Idea Laptops preloaded with Broadcom Ethernet controller
On the following operating system:
Microsoft Windows 7
1. Turn on your PC.
2. Press and hold F8 key before Windows 7 splash screen shown in Fig.1 appears.
3. Enter “Advanced Boot Options” to select “Windows 7 Safe Mode”.
4. Open “Device Manager”, and then click the Ethernet Controller.
5. Click “Action” --> “Scan for hardware changes”, user may need to scan for several times. See Fig.2.
Then Windows will detect it as Broadcom Ethernet device with exclamation sign in “Device Manager”. You can follow the screen to update the driver for Windows 7, which you can download from http://support.lenovo.com/en_SG/downloads/detail.page?LegacyDocID=DRVR-MATRIX (Note: do remember to select your machines model information and operating system accordingly) that had been extracted to C:\Driver\Broadcom Ethernet XX folder.
Restart machine, now the Broadcom Ethernet controller can be used normally.
