1. Downloading BoMC

Note: Starting from ver. 13.1.0, BoMC has ended the service of IBM Systems. The last supported version BoMC 13.0.1 binaries are saved on this page.

• Download the latest version from the Lenovo XClarity Bootable Media Creator website.
• Alternatively, you can also utilize the Lenovo DCG support site to download this tool for your server.
• For example, for demonstration purposes, this tip uses BoMC version 13.1.0 on SR630, Type 7x02
  


• Save it to a location and run it. 
  

• Creating Bootable Media

• Enter a name for this bootable media file.
• Select Accept target server's certificate by default for Custom URL security configurations and test the connection to the default target URL address. Alternatively, you can also select the option that's applicable to your network environment. 
  


• Select the server with machine type. For the purpose of this demonstration, SR630, Type 7X02 is selected.
  


• Select Upate and Enable Task AutoRun if you want the BoMC bootable media to run automatically on your server. If not, do not select this option. 
  


• Choose the firmware update type for your server: 
  • To download the latest updates, select the Latest available individual updates option. 
    
  
  
  • For an integration-tested bundle of firmware, select UpdateXress System Packs(UXSP's). 
    
• For the Media Format, if you want to save the output file as an image file and store it on a local storage drive, select Device type as CD/DVD and Write to image file and specify a storage location. 
  


• Confirm to override if you want to override an existing iso file with the same filename.  
  


• To create a bootable drive, select USB from the drop-down menu:
  


• Select the USB disk on which you want to create the bootable device. 
  


• Configure Unattended Mode and select Reboot BMC after updating BMC firmware automatically if you want to reboot the BMC. 
  


• Review the selected options. 
  


• You have the option of selecting the firmware packages to update before proceeding with the firmware update.  
  
  
  


• Creation in progress.
  
  
  


• Click Finish to complete.
  

2. Mounting Bootable Media

• Log in to the XCC and click the Remote Console Preview window.
  


• Click Launch Remote Console and specify user account information to enter the server.
  


• Select Media.
  


• Select Activate to Mount Local Media Files.
  


• Click Browse.
  


• Select the ISO file that you created for this firmware update.
  


• Click Mount all local media to mount it.
  


• Mounting in progress.
  


• In Windows OS, check Windows Explorer on the remote server for the mounted ISO image.  The ISO image should be mounted and displayed as a bootable media. 
  


• Lastly, click on Media and scroll down to the bottom of the page to configure "Select one virtual media to boot on next restart".
  Select one of the three options of your preference for rebooting the server: Manually restart later, Restart server immediately or Restart server normally and then click OK.
  


• Click OK to apply the settings.
• Click Close to complete the setup. 


• With the selected settings above the server will automatically perform the requested actions on the next restart and boot into the selected media.
  
  
  
  
  


• LXCE UpdateXpress is launched
  


• BoMC firmware comparison in progress.
  
• Click Next to begin firmware update process.
• Wait for the firmware update process to finish.

3. Restart the server once firmware update is complete.
   • If shutting down the server is not a valid option in your network envirnment, an alternative option is to reset the XCC.
   • Resetting the XCC reinitializes the XCC and hardware inventory collection and clears the System-Error LED.
   • This operation will not affect or interrupt the OS services running on the server.
