What's More

This package corrects a situation in which WinDVD 8 SD cannot be uninstalled from your computer. When you try to uninstall WinDVD you may receive an error about not being able to find the source files. This program corrects the issue by adding the missing files.

This update requires approximately 1MB of space on your hard disk.
Additional information
Symptom

You are not able to uninstall WinDVD 8 SD from Control Panel->Uninstall a Program. An error message appears about not having access to source files.

Affected Operating Systems and additional information
  • Microsoft Windows 7
  • The system is configured with WinDVD 8 SD
  • The WinDVD installer is expected to leave behind transform files in the software uninstall directory. A bug in InshallShield prevents the installer from writing the correct files to Windows 7 uninstall directories. If the original install files are removed from the system, the program cannot be uninstalled.
Downloading the package
  1. Click the file link to download the file from the Web page.
  2. When prompted, select a drive and directory in which to save the downloaded file.
System preparation
  • Use this patch only if you get an error about missing files while trying trying to uninstall WinDVD 8 SD
Installing the package
  1. Click Start, then click Start Search.
  2. Type windvdsduninstall-a.exe in the search field, then click Search Everywhere. This will locate the file you just downloaded.

  4. Follow all onscreen prompts.
  5. You can now uninstall WinDVD from the Microsoft Add/Remove programs section of the Control Panel.
Silent Installation

windvdsduninstall-a.exe -s

Windows 7 Support

This package fully supports Windows 7. Note that many platforms lack Windows 7 drivers that can support Blu-ray playback as of this release date.

Application notes
  • This update requires administrator mode and raised UAC level to apply. This update has been tested with the following WinDVD 8 SD levels from Lenovo. Other levels may not work with it.

    8.0.20.80
    8.0.20.90
    8.0.20.96
    8.0.20.106
    8.0.20.112
    8.0.20.121
    8.0.20.129
    8.0.20.138

  • Uninstalling WinDVD removes the working portions of this update. If you reinstall WinDVD, you may have to apply this patch again to uninstall WindVD again.
  • Application of this patch more than once will result in a UAC prompt to replace certain files. This prompt is normal. There is no difference to function whether or not the files are overwritten at the UAC prompt.
