How to find and download network driver - Thinkpad, ThinkCentre

Section 1: Find Network Card Name

  1. Go to "".
  2. Click on Warranty & Services.

  4. Click on the Check Warranty Status.

  6. Click on the Parts Lookup.

  8. Enter the product Serial Number and Machine Type. Click on Submit button.
    Note: For more details on how to find the product information, please click here.

  10. Sample result that will appear is found below. Find the correct network card part number and description.
    Keyword for Network Card are WWAN, WLAN, LAN, WAN.

  12. If the description for the part is not clear or understandable, please download and use the following manual:

    For Think system manufactured before January 1, 2012, please use the Hardware Maintenance Manual
    For Think system manufactured after January 1, 2012, please use the Parts Database Lookup

    Note: Please use the FRU P/N (refer to above image) for searching the description in the Hardware Maintenance Manual or Parts Database Lookup. The following is the printscreen from the Hardware Maintenance Manual.


Section 2: Find the Network Card Driver

  1. Go to "".
  2. Click on the Driver Matrix link on the right menu.

  4. Click on your Product Type (for example; ThinkPad).

  6. Then, click on your Product Name (for example: T420).

  8. Shorten the driver list by selecting the Category (for example: Networking: Wireless LAN) and your machine’s Operating System (for example: Windows 7).

  10. There might be multiple Wireless LAN drivers that are available for your selected system and Operating System. To find which  driver is applicable for your machine, you will need to look for the driver that provides support for the Network Card identified in Section 1.

    Click on Learn More to view the supported devices for the selected driver.

  12. Your network card name (result from Section 1) should match with the information listed in the driver page (for example: Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205). If the network card name matches, please proceed to download the driver as per the instructions in the driver page.

    If the network card name doesn't match, please repeat Step 6 using the next driver.
