Microsoft Office 2013 folder cannot be removed from Start menu intermittently after uninstalling Microsoft Office 2013 - ThinkCentre, ThinkStation , ThinkServer , ThinkPad , Idea Tablet , IdeaPad , IdeaCentre

Symptom

With Microsoft Windows 7, Microsoft Office 2013 folder cannot be removed from the Start menu intermittently after uninstalling Microsoft Office 2013.  When the user clicks Microsoft Office 2013 in the Start menu, an error message will be displayed that the application has encountered an error.  A screen will be displayed to provide the user with three options:  Close the application, Repair the application, or Help.  This is due to Microsoft Office 2013 being uninstalled.  This same issue is found with Microsoft Office 2010.

Affected configurations

The above symptom is associated with, but not limited to, the following systems:

  • ThinkCentre
  • ThinkStation
  • ThinkServer
  • ThinkPad
  • Idea Tablet
  • IdeaPad
  • IdeaCentre

Affected Systems (machine types, model types):

  • All systems shipped with Microsoft Office 2013

Applies To:

  • Microsoft Windows 7

None

Workaround

The user can remove the Microsoft Office 2013 from the Start menu manually.
