This package installs the software (Intel Chipset driver) to enable the following devices:

  • Intel (R) Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller

Note:

  • If this package has been installed, updating (overwrite-installing) this package will fix problems, add new functions, or expand functions as noted below.
  • This program is language independent and can be used with any language system.

Installation Instructions

Notes:

  • If your computer runs satisfactorily now, it may not be necessary to update the software. To determine if you should update the software, refer to the Determining Which Version is Installed section.
  • Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 is required to be installed on the system in order to install Intel Rapid Storage Technology Interface.
Manual Install

This section assumes to use Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer.

[Downloading file]

  1. Click once on the underlined file name. Once this is done, some pop-up windows will appear.
  2. Follow the instructions on the screen.
  3. In the window to choose Run or Save, click the Save button.
  4. Choose the folder you would like to download the file to and click the Save button. A different window will appear and the download will begin and complete. Once the download has completed, there may or may not be a message stating that the download completed successfully.

[Extracting file]

  1. Make sure to be logged on with administrative privileges.
  2. Locate the directory where the file was downloaded.
  3. Locate the file that was downloaded and double-click it.
  4. Follow the instructions on the screen.
  5. In the "Select Destination Location" window, click Next. If you would like to select a different folder, click Browse.
  6. In the "Ready to Install" window, click Install. All the necessary files will be extracted to the folder selected in the step 9.
Clean Install

[Windows XP]

  1. Enable AHCI mode in BIOS setup.
  2. Extract all driver files onto a diskette from the installation package and insert the diskette into the system.
  3. At the beginning of the operating system installation, press F6 to install a third party SCSI or RAID driver.
  4. When prompted, select 'S' to Specify Additional Device.
  5. At this point you should be presented with a selection and highlight
    Intel(R) 5 Series 4 Port SATA AHCI Controller or
    Intel(R) 5 Series 6 Port SATA AHCI Controller or
    Intel(R) 5 Series/3400 Series SATA AHCI Controller
    or
    Intel(R) 7 Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller
    or
    Intel(R) 7 Series/C216 Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller
    or
    Intel(R) Desktop/Workstation/Server Express Chipset SATA AHCI Controller

    or
    Intel(R) ICH10D/DO SATA AHCI Controller or
    Intel(R) ICH10R SATA AHCI Controller
    or
    Intel(R) ICH7M/MDH SATA AHCI Controller
    or
    Intel(R) ICH7R/DH SATA AHCI Controller
    or
    Intel(R) ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller
    or
    Intel(R) Mobile Express Chipset SATA AHCI Controller
    and you should select
    Intel(R) 7 Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller.
  6. Press Enter again to continue. Leave the diskette in the system until the next reboot as the software will need to be copied from the diskette again when setup is copying files.

[Window 7]

  1. Start Windows 7 and logon with an administrator account.
  2. Click Start, then click Control Panel.
  3. Click System and Maintenance, then click System.
  4. Click Device Manager.
  5. Expand the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers category.
  6. Right-click Standard AHCI 1.0 Serial ATA Controller and then select Update Driver Software...
  7. Click Browse my computer for driver software.
  8. Click Browse..., then select the driver location and then click Next.
  9. Click Close when the installation has completed.
  10. Click Yes to restart the computer.
Update Install

To update the driver, follow the instructions below:

[Windows XP]

  1. Start Windows XP.
  2. Click "Start" and Control Panel.
  3. Click System.
  4. Click Hardware tab.
  5. Click "Device Manager" button.
  6. Click the "+" mark to expand IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers.
  7. Right-click
    Intel(R) 5 Series 4 Port SATA AHCI Controller or
    Intel(R) 5 Series 6 Port SATA AHCI Controller or
    Intel(R) 5 Series/3400 Series SATA AHCI Controller or
    Intel(R) 7 Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller or
    Intel(R) 7 Series/C216 Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller or
    Intel(R) Desktop/Workstation/Server Express Chipset SATA AHCI Controller
    or
    Intel(R) ICH10D/DO SATA AHCI Controller or
    Intel(R) ICH10R SATA AHCI Controller or
    Intel(R) ICH7M/MDH SATA AHCI Controller or
    Intel(R) ICH7R/DH SATA AHCI Controller or
    Intel(R) ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller or
    Intel(R) Mobile Express Chipset SATA AHCI Controller and click
    Properties.
    8. Click Driver tab.
    9. Click Update Driver button.
    10. Select No, not this time and click Next.
    11. Select Install from a list or specific location.
    12. Click Next button.
    13. Select Search for the best driver in these locations and Include this
    location in the search
    .
    14. Click Browse button.
    15. Locate the driver folder and click OK button.
    16. Click Next button.
    The driver installation starts.
    17. Click Finish button when the installation completes.
    18. Click Close button.

[Windows 7]

Note: This is for administrator use only.

  1. Start Windows 7 and logon with an administrator account.
  2. Click Start, then click Control Panel.
  3. Click System and Maintenance, then click System.
  4. Click Device Manager.
  5. . Expand the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers category.
  6. Right-click

    and then select Update Driver Software...
  7. Click Browse my computer for driver software.
  8. Click Browse..., then select the driver location and then click Next.
  9. Click Close when the installation has completed.
  10. Click Yes to restart the computer.
Determining which version is installed
  1. Click Start, then click Control Panel.
  2. Click System and Security, then click System.
  3. Click Device Manager.
  4. Click the + sign in front of the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers.
  5. Double-click Intel(R) 7 Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller.
  6. Click the Driver tab. Then you will see the Driver Version.
