This package installs the software (Ethernet driver) to enable the following device for 10/100 Mbps Ethernet support.
- Intel PRO/100 VE Network Connection (10/100 Ethernet)

This package also installs Intel PROSet for Windows Device Manager which is an extension to the Windows Device Manager.

After the Intel PROSet software is installed, additional tabs are automatically added to Device Manager.

This release supports the following ThinkPad systems:
- R40
- R50(*1), R50e, R50p(*1), R51(*1)
- T40(*1), T40p(*1), T41(*1), T41p(*1)
- X31(*1)

Note:
*1: Supports the models with Intel PRO/100 VE Network Connection only.
This package supports Intel PRO/100 VE Network Connection only.
For Gigabit Ethernet devices, install another package; Intel PRO/1000 LAN Adapter Software Build 135400 or higher.

Update Install:

To update the driver, follow the instructions below.

  1. Start Windows XP and logon with administrative privileges.
  2. Extract this package onto your hard drive.
  3. Click Start, then click Control Panel.
  4. Click Performance and Maintenance, then click System icon.
  5. Click the Hardware tab.
  6. Click Device Manager.
  7. Click the + mark to expand Network adapters.
  8. Right-click Intel® PRO/100 VE Network Connection in Network adapters and click Properties.
  9. Click the Driver tab.
  10. Click Update Driver....
  11. Select No, not this time and click Next.
  12. Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced).
  13. Click Next in "Hardware Upgrade Wizard" dialog box.
  14. Select Search for the best driver in these locations and Include this location in the search: only.
  15. Specify the path to one of the following sub-directories with the full path name where you extracted the package in step 2 in "Include this location in the search:".
    \PRO100\WS03XP32
  16. Click Next. The driver installation starts.
  17. Click Finish when the installation completes.
  18. Click Close.

[Windows 2000]

Update Install:

To update the driver, follow the instructions below.

  1. Start Windows 2000 and logon with administrative privileges.
  2. Extract this package onto your hard drive.
  3. Click Start, select Settings, and click Control Panel.
  4. Double-click the System icon.
  5. Click the Hardware tab.
  6. Click Device Manager....
  7. Click the + mark to expand "Network adapters".
  8. Right-click Intel® PRO/100 VE Network Connection in Network adapters and click Properties.
  9. Click the Driver tab.
  10. Click Update Driver....
  11. Click Next in the "Upgrade Device Driver Wizard" dialog box.
  12. Select Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended).
  13. Click Next.
  14. Select Specify a location only in Optional search locations:.
  15. Click Next.
  16. Specify the path to the following sub-directory with the full path name where you extracted the package in step 2 in Copy manufacturer's files from:.
    \PRO100\WIN2K
  17. Click OK.
  18. Click Next. The driver installation starts.
  19. Click Finish when the installation completes.
  20. Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer.

Unattended Install

This is for system administrators' use only.

[Windows XP / 2000]
For unattended installation, Ethernet driver for DOS (E100b.dos) is prepared. Obtain the additional package, Intel PRO/10/100/1000 LAN Adapter Software for DOS and OS/2 to use the Ethernet drivers for DOS.

The information about unattended installation instructions are included in APPS\SETUP\PUSH sub-directory after extracting this package.

Intel PROSet Installation

Intel PROSet is an extension to the Windows Device Manager. When you install the Intel PROSet software, additional tabs are automatically added to Device Manager.

Notes:

  • You must have administrator rights to install or use Intel PROSet.
  • Before upgrading Intel PROSet, you have to uninstall the current PROSet that is installed on your ThinkPad.
Manual Install
  1. Make sure to be logged on with administrative privileges.
  2. Click Start, select Run, select Browse.
  3. Specify PROSet.exe with the full path name where you extracted the package and click OK.
    Example:
    C:\DRIVERS\WIN\Ethernet\APPS\PROSET\W2KWS03\PROSet.exe
  4. Click Next.
  5. Click I accept the terms in the license agreement and click Next.
  6. Select Typical and click Next.
  7. Click Install.
  8. Click Finish.

To check the version of the device driver that is installed on your system:

  1. Right-click the My Computer icon.
  2. Click Find.
  3. Type one of the NDIS driver names in Named: field.
    For example:
    Windows XP: Type E100b325.sys.
    Windows 2000: Type E100bnt5.sys.
  4. Click the Find Now or Search Now button.
  5. It lists the NDIS driver(s). If it does not list the NDIS driver, the Ethernet device driver is not installed in your system.
  6. Right-click the NDIS driver that is found in the Windows folder.
  7. Click Properties.
  8. Click the Version tab.
  9. Click Product Version in the Items name: field.
