This package provides the Modem driver for Microsoft Windows 98, 98SE, NT4.0, 2000, XP users.

The Modem driver enables or updates the Modem function of ThinkPad Integrated Modem of the following systems:
- ThinkPad G41(*1)
- ThinkPad R50e(*1), R51(*1), R51e(*1), R52(*1)
- ThinkPad T42, T42p(*1)
- ThinkPad T43(*2), T43p(*1)
- ThinkPad X32(*2)
- ThinkPad X40(*2), X41(*1)
- ThinkPad X41 Tablet (*3)

Notes:
- *1: Supports Windows 2000/XP only
- *2: Supports Windows NT 4.0/2000/XP only
- *3: Supports Windows XP Tablet Edition 2005

- The driver version of this package is 7.34.00.50 for ThinkPad R51e and 7.34.00.00 for other ThinkPad systems

Installation instructions
Notes:
  • This package supports both systems with and without Wireless LAN.
  • Software Installer provides install and uninstall wizards for this package.
  1. Start Windows.
  2. Logon with administrative privileges.
  3. Extract this package onto the hard drive. The default path is C:\Drivers\WIN\SWMDMCNT.
  4. Click Start, and then click Run.
  5. Specify HXFSETUP.EXE with the full path name where you extracted the package in the step 3, and then click OK.
  6. In the Device Driver Installation Wizard window, click OK.
  7. Device Driver will be installed automatically.
  8. If you see the message "Digital Signature Not Found" appear, please click OK to continue installing.
  9. NetWaiting program installation starts automatically.
    1. In the "Welcome to..." window, click Next.
    2. In the License Agreement window, read the contents carefully and if you agree, click Yes.
    3. In the Choose Destination Location window, click Next.

    4. In the Select Program Folder window, click Next.

    5. When the installation is finished, click Finish.
  10. Digital Line Detection program installation starts automatically.
    1. In the Welcome to... window, click Next.
    2. In the License Agreement window, read the contents carefully and if you agree, click Yes.
    3. In the Choose Destination Location window, click Next.

    5. When finished installation, click Finish.
  11. When the driver installation result is shown, click OK to finish installation.
  12. If needed, restart the system.

Uninstall instructions
Manual uninstall
  1. Start Windows.
  2. Logon with administrative privileges
  3. Open Control Panel.
  4. In Windows 2000, click Start, Settings and then Control Panel.
    In Windows XP, click Start, and then Control Panel.
  5. In the Control Panel window, double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  6. Select ThinkPad Integrated 56K Modem.
  7. Click Change/Remove on Windows 2000/XP.
  8. In Device driver uninstallation wizard window, click OK.
  9. Device Driver will be uninstalled automatically.
  10. Uninstallation of NetWaiting software will start automatically.
    1. In the Welcome window, select Remove and then click Next.
    2. In the Confirm Uninstall dialog, click OK. NetWaiting will be uninstalled.
  11. Uninstallation of Digital Line Detect software will start automatically.
    1. In the Welcome window, select Remove and then click Next.
    2. In the Confirm Uninstall dialog, click OK. Digital Line Detect software will be uninstalled.
  12. When the driver uninstallation result is shown, click OK to finish installation.
  13. If needed, restart the system.

Unattended install
This is for system administrators use only.

  1. Start Windows.
  2. Logon with administrative privileges.
  3. Extract this package onto the hard drive. The default location is C:\Drivers\WIN\SWMDMCNT.
  4. Click Start and then click Run.
  5. Type HXFSETUP.EXE -s with the full path name where you extracted the package in step 3, and click OK.

Determining which version is installed
If you used Software Installer to install this driver, the following procedure can be used to verify the version number:
  1. Click Start, Programs, select ThinkVantage and click Software Installer.
  2. In the Software Installer window, select View driver or application version information and click Next.
  3. Check the version of ThinkPad Integrated 56K Modem for Windows xx, where xx is either 98, NT4.0 or 2000/XP.

You can also check the modem driver version by the following procedure:
Note: The driver version of this package is 7.34.00.50 for Windows XP/2000 for ThinkPad R51e, 7.34.00.00 for Windows XP/2000 for other ThinkPads, 7.12.15.51 for Windows 98/98SE, and 7.12.15.52 for Windows NT 4.0.

Windows 98/98 SE

  1. Start Windows 95, 98, 98 SE
  2. Click Start, select Settings, and click Control Panel.
  3. Double-click System.
  4. Click the Device Manager tab.
  5. Double-click Modems.
  6. Select ThinkPad Integrated 56K Modem and click Properties.
  7. Click the Driver tab and click Driver File details.
  8. Select WIN95AC.VXD and check the version shown.

Windows NT 4.0

  1. Start Windows NT.
  2. Double-click My Computer.
  3. Double-click C:.
  4. Double-click the Winnt or Winnt40 folder.
  5. Double-click the System32 folder.
  6. Double-click the Drivers folder.
  7. Right-click HSF_CNXT.sys and click Properties.
  8. You can find the driver version on the Version tab.

Windows 2000

  1. Start Windows 2000
  2. Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  3. Double-click System icon.
  4. Click the Hardware tab.
  5. Click the Device Manager.
  6. Double-click Modems category icon.
  7. Double-click ThinkPad Integrated 56K Modem.
  8. Click the Driver tab and then click Driver Details.
  9. Select HSF_CNXT.SYS and then check the version shown in the window.

Windows XP

  1. Start Windows XP
  2. Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  3. Click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System.
  4. Click the Hardware tab.
  5. Click the Device Manager.
  6. Double-click Modems category icon.
  7. Double-click ThinkPad Integrated 56K Modem.
  8. Click the Driver tab and then click the Driver Details.
  9. Select HSF_CNXT.SYS and then check the version shown in the window.

Using Modem on Hold and Fast Connect
Notes:
  • To use these functions, you have to use telephone line that has the Call waiting function and the Caller ID function, which each country or region sets independently. And you also have to Connect to an ISP access point that is compatible with these function. Check with your ISP.
  • The Modem on Hold (MoH) function has been tested and shown to work in the United States and Canada. It may not work correctly in other countries.
  • Fast Connect function works well if you dial to the same phone number from only one place. Otherwise, it is better to disable Fast Connect function.
  • To use Modem on hold and Fast Connect function, you have to run Modem on Hold application first and enable each function by following procedure:
    1. Click Start, select All Programs, select NetWaiting and then click NetWaiting,
    2. Right click the NetWaiting icon in the task tray and then click Setting.
    3. Check the Modem on Hold setting and close it.
