This package provides the Wireless LAN driver and Utility Software for Microsoft Windows XP and Microsoft Windows 2000 to enable the following Wireless LAN adapters:

- ThinkPad 11a/b/g/n Wireless LAN Mini PCI Express Adapter
- ThinkPad 11b/g/n Wireless LAN Mini PCI Express Adapter

This package supports the Wireless LAN installed models of the following ThinkPad systems:
- R60, R60e, R61, R61e, R61i
- T60, T60p, T61, T61p
- X60, X60s, X60 Tablet
- X61, X61s, X61 Tablet
- Z61e, Z61m, Z61p, Z61t

Notes:
-The following software must be updated when you install this package.
- Access Connections ver. 4.40 or higher
- Hotkey Features for Windows 98/98 SE/Me/NT 4.0/2000/XP version 2.01.0703 or higher

Notes:

  • This package supports Access Connections 4.4 or higher.
  • Before installing the latest ThinkVantage Access Connections, install the following software.
  • If you currently use IEEE 802.1x authentication on Windows XP Service Pack 1 and do not use WPA encryption, Lenovo recommends you uninstall Q826942 (WPA Supplicant update rollup package in Windows XP) and Q815485 (WPA Wireless Security Update in Windows XP). This does not apply if you are running Windows XP Service Pack 2.

To check if Q826942 or Q815485 is installed and to uninstall it:

  1. Start Windows XP and logon with administrative privileges.
  2. Click Start and then click Control Panel.
  3. Click Add or Remove Programs.
  4. Click Windows XP Hotfix (SP2) Q826942 or Windows XP Hotfix (SP2) Q815485 if it is listed under Currently installed programs.
  5. Click Remove and follow the instructions on the screen.
    Note:
    The above action will remove all the fixes within the update rollup package, Q826942. You may need to re-install the other specific hotfixes you expect for this rollup package.
  • If you use Windows 2000, please stop the Microsoft Wireless Configuration service if it is already installed.

To check if the service is installed and to stop it:

  1. Start Windows 2000 and logon with administrative privileges.
  2. Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  3. Double-click Administrative Tools then Services.
  4. Double-click Wireless Configuration if it is listed.
  5. Change Startup type to Disabled if it is not.
  6. Click OK.
  • You may need to re-enter security information after updating the Wireless LAN driver.

Installation instructions
Note:
  1. Start Windows XP or Windows 2000 and logon with administrative privileges.
  2. Double-click the driver package to extract it to your hard drive. The default location is C:\DRIVERS\WIN\WLLANATH.
  3. Click the Start button, then click Run.
  4. Specify the SETUP.EXE with the full path name where you extracted the package in the step 2, and click OK. Example: C:\DRIVERS\WIN\WLLANATH\SETUP.EXE
  5. Follow the instructions on the screen.
  6. Restart the computer.

Unattended install
Note: This procedure is intended for system administrators only.
  1. Refer to the Manual Install section, and download and expand the files.
  2. At the command line, execute SETUP.EXE with the -S option.
    Example: C:\DRIVERS\WIN\WLLANATH\SETUP.EXE -S

Uninstallation
  1. Start Windows. Logon with administrative privileges.
  2. Windows XP - Click Start, then click Control Panel.
    Windows 2000 - Click Start, select Settings and click Control Panel.
  3. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  4. Select ThinkPad Wireless LAN Adapters Software (11a/b, 11b/g, 11a/b/g).
  5. Click Change/Remove and follow the instructions on the screen.
  6. Restart the computer.

Determining which version is installed
  1. Start Windows.
  2. Windows XP - Click Start, then click Control Panel. Click Add or Remove Programs.
    Windows 2000 - Click Start, click Settings, then click Control Panel. Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  3. Select ThinkPad Wireless LAN Adapters Software (11a/b, 11b/g, 11a/b/g).
  4. Select Click here for support information. The version number will be displayed.
