      This package installs the software (Ethernet driver) to enable the following device.
      - Broadcom NetLink Gigabit Ethernet

      Supported ThinkPad systems:
      - R61(Machine types: 8930, 8932, 8933, 8934, 8935, 8936, 8937, 8942, 8943, 8944, 8945, 8947, 8948, 8949)
      - R61e
      - R61i (Machine types: 7650, 8932, 8943)
      - R500

      Supported Operating Systems:

      - This package also installs Broadcom Advanced Control Suite 3 (BACS3) which is an integrated utility that provides useful information about each network adapter that is installed in your computer.       Installation Instructions
      Notes:
      • If your computer runs satisfactorily now, it may not be necessary to update the software. To determine if you should update the software, refer to the Version Information section.
      Ethernet Driver
      Manual Install

      This section assumes to use Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer.

      [Downloading file]

      1. Click once on the underlined file name. Once this is done, some pop-up windows will appear.
      2. Follow the instructions on the screen.
      3. In the window to choose Run or Save, click the Save button.
      4. Choose the folder you would like to download the file to and click the Save button. A different window will appear and the download will begin and complete. Once the download has completed, there may or may not be a message stating that the download completed successfully.

      [Extracting file]

      1. Make sure to be logged on with administrative privileges.
      2. Locate the directory where the file was downloaded.
      3. Locate the file that was downloaded and double-click it.
        The file name ends with "_32.EXE" for 32-bit, "_64.EXE" for 64-bit Windows.
      4. Follow the instructions on the screen.
      5. In the "Select Destination Location" window, click Next. If you would like to select a different folder, click Browse.
      6. In the "Ready to Install" window, click Install. All the necessary files will be extracted to the folder selected in the step 9.

      [Installing files]

      1. Make sure the checkbox next to "Install ..... now" is checked and click Finish.
      2. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete installation and restart the computer.

      Finally delete the file saved in Step 4.

       

      Unattended Install
      Note: This is intended for system administrators only.
      1. Refer to the "Manual Install" section, and download and extract the file.
      2. In the step 11 of the "Installing files" section, uncheck the checkbox next to "Install ..... now", and then click Finish to cancel installation.
      3. At the command line, execute setup.exe with the /s /v/qn options.
        Example:
        Windows Vista 32-bit: [Path where the files were extracted]\TOOLS\DRVINST\IA32\setup /s /v/qn
        Windows Vista 64-bit: [Path where the files were extracted]\TOOLS\DRVINST\X64\setup /s /v/qn

       

      Unattended Install with a XML-based Answer File
      Note: This is intended for system administrators only.
      1. Refer to the "Manual Install" section, and download and extract the file.
      2. In the step 11 of the "Installing files" section, uncheck the checkbox next to "Install ..... now", and then click Finish to cancel installation.
      3. Locate the following folder.
        Example:
        Windows Vista 32-bit: [Path where the files were extracted]\TOOLS\UNATTEND\VISTA\IA32
        Windows Vista 64-bit: [Path where the files were extracted]\TOOLS\UNATTEND\VISTA\X64
      4. Find files for unattended install.

       

      Broadcom Advanced Control Suite 3 (BACS3)

      Note:
      Before upgrading Broadcom Advanced Control Suite 3 (BACS3), you have to uninstall the current BACS that is installed on your computer.

      Manual Install
      1. Refer to the "Manual Install" section, and download and extract the file.
      2. In the step 11 of the "Installing files" section, uncheck the checkbox next to "Install ..... now", and then click Finish to cancel installation.
      3. Locate the folder where the file was extracted.
      4. Locate the following folder.
        Windows Vista 32-bit: \BACS\IA32
        Windows Vista 64-bit: \BACS\x64
      5. Double-click setup.exe file.
      6. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete installation.

       

      Determining which version is installed
      1. Click Start.
      2. Right-click Computer and click Properties.
      3. At the left pane, click Device Manager.
      4. Double-click the Network adapters category.
      5. Double-click Broadcom NetLink Gigabit Ethernet.
      6. Click Driver tab.
      7. Check Driver Version.
