Base cover, USB sub card with cable, and PC Card/ExpressCard slots (or ExpressCard/Smart Card slots or ExpressCard/7-in-1 Media Card Reader slots) bezel assembly removal and installation - ThinkPad R400, T400

For access, remove these FRUs in order:

  1. Battery.
  2. Palm rest or palm rest with fingerprint reader.
  3. Keyboard.
  4. PCI Express Mini Card for wireless LAN.
  5. PCI Express Mini Card for wireless WAN.
  6. Intel Turbo Memory Minicard or wireless USB adapter.
  7. Keyboard bezel.
  8. LCD assembly

Step 1 - 2

Attention: Before step (8), be sure that the Serial Ultrabay Slim device or Serial Ultrabay Enhanced device eject lever has not popped out. It must be housed in its position as shown in the figure (a).

Step 7 - 8

Note: When installing the base cover, make sure that the position of the wireless switch, and firmly fit into the frame (b).

Remove the USB sub card with cable and the security hole bracket as in this figure.

When attaching the PC Card/ExpressCard slots bezel assembly, do as shown in this figure.

When attaching the ExpressCard/Smart Card slots bezel assembly or ExpressCard/7-in-1 Media Card Reader slots bezel assembly, do as shown in this figure.

Applying labels to the base cover:

The new base cover FRU is shipped with a kit containing labels of several kinds. When you replace the base cover, you need to apply the following labels:

  1. Product label
  2. Homologation label

Following labels need to be peeled off from the old base cover, and need to be put on the new base cover.

  1. Wireless LAN LMA label
  2. SIM ICCID label
  3. Windows license label (COA)
  4. Wireless WAN LMA label
  5. Japan recycle label (for LE model)
  6. Israel label
  7. SIRM label
  8. China modem label
  9. Wireless WAN IMEI label or wireless WAN ESN label

For some models, you also need to apply one or two FCC labels. Check the old base cover; if it has one or two FCC labels, find duplicates of them in the label kit and apply them to the new base cover.
