Structure frame and IEEE 1394 sub card removal and installation - ThinkPad R500

For access, remove these FRUs in order:

  1. Battery.
  2. Serial Ultrabay Enhanced device.
  3. Hard disk drive cover, hard disk drive, and hard disk rubber rails
  4. Palm rest or palm rest with fingerprint reader.
  5. Keyboard.
  6. PCI Express Mini Card for wireless LAN
  7. Keyboard bezel and speakers
  8. Fan assembly.
  9. LCD assembly.
  10. Base cover and PC Card/ExpressCard (or ExpressCard/Smart Card) bezel assembly.

Remove the ac power jack cable (a).

When installing: Make sure the connectors are attached firmly.

Remove the CPU support plate.

When installing: When attaching the system board to the frame, adjust the placement with the small projection (a). Then secure the system board with the screws.

In step (10), remove the system board and the PC Card/ExpressCard slots assembly from the structure frame together.

In step (11) and (12), remove IEEE 1394 sub card.
